Full Job Description

Evolito's mission is to accelerate the adoption of electric propulsion in aerospace applications in support of a net-zero world. We will help to revolutionise personal mobility and transform our towns and cities with clean, noise-free air transportation., To support our journey and rapid growth we are looking for a Senior Power Engineer to join us. Reporting to our Head of Electronics, you will provide support across projects and teams to design, implement and test motor control units to meet the system and equipment requirements and to a certifiable standard for aerospace applications. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Take a lead role in the inverter and converter power electronics development
  • Contributing to defining and reviewing specifications
  • Lead and/or contribute to design reviews
  • Supporting the safety case (ARP4754A/DO254) of the system
  • Design, develop, debug and validate power electronics for use in inverter and converter products for aerospace applications.
  • Simulation and evaluation of EMC, power and thermal models
  • Schematic capture, PCB layout design and manufacturing support
  • Evaluating component lifetime, limits and derating
  • Lead and support power electronics verification activities through the product lifecycle
  • Supporting EMC testing and the development of technical files
  • Generating internal and external documentation including designs, analysis, simulation and reviews
  • Contribute to developing the electronics / hardware departments technologies, capabilities, facilities, and processes
  • Technically lead, guide and mentor engineers within the Hardware Team and across the business.

    Degree or equivalent in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, or a demonstratable level of relevant industrial experience
  • Previous proven experience in relevant industry
  • Demonstrated track record of engineering ability in a power electronics discipline
  • Strong knowledge of power electronic devices (IGBTs, MOSFETs, wideband gap devices, Capacitors, Current sensors)
  • Experience in designing robust gate drive circuits for wideband gap switching devices including component protection mechanisms.
  • Previous experience of electronic component selection and characterization including power supply magnetics design
  • Experienced in modelling, simulation and analysis of power devices for inverter systems. Knowledge of either one or more of the following simulation tools: LTSpice, Simetrix, Matlab/Simulink, PLECS and PSIM
  • Proficiency in power electronics design, including schematic layout, PCB layout, component selection. Prior experience in Altium Designer is desirable
  • Ability to perform design analysis, including worst-case, tolerance, thermal, and stress
  • Experience in designing for EMC compliance in accordance with DO160 or MIL STDs
  • Understanding of Design for Test (DFT) and Design for Manufacture (DFM)
  • Experience in parameter validation of wideband gap devices and associated test platforms
  • Experience developing products that comply with functional safety standards (such as ARP4754A/DO254 / ISO 26262)
  • Experience working with high voltage / high current / high-energy systems, following safe systems of work
  • Ability to interface with customers and suppliers with the ability to present information, detail requirements and understand issues
  • Ability to generate documentation to a high standard for internal and external customers
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), good collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively across teams
  • Instinctive problem-solving skills coupled with a sound analytical approach

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage conflict, demands and deadlines
