  • What you'll do HEO Role in Reducing Reoffending Statistics team The Reducing Reoffending Statistics team is responsible for processing, analysing, and publishing data on our key reoffending datasets, as well as offering analytical insight to Ministers, policy colleagues and external customers. Reducing reoffending is a strategic priority for the Ministry of Justice, and the statistics that analysts in this team produce are an essential part of this programme. These statistics also facilitate policy decisions on a whole range of other topics, both across MoJ and externally, for example, including the impact of women in the Criminal Justice system and the development of drugs policy at the Home Office. You will work to produce the Proven Reoffending Quarterly Statistics publication, which is an accredited National Statistics publication. The reoffending measure is technically complex, relying on linking numerous data sources and coding in SQL and R. Due to the high-profile nature of the topic area, the team also receives regular Parliamentary Questions (PQ) and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests whilst maintaining rigorous data assurance processes, so strong communication skills are required, along with the ability to prioritise multiple workstreams. Additionally, analysts in this team will own and lead on their own analytical projects, applying their knowledge and skills to support decision-making., Your CV should be no more than 2 pages long and should show us your work history and previous experience. It should be well structured, succinct, and written in clear language. Your Statement of Suitability should be no more than 750 words and should give us examples of how your skills and experience match those needed for this role. Consider giving examples that cover all the requirements in the 'Who you are' section and use work you have completed to demonstrate how you meet each one. 5a. Selection Process There will be an initial sift of applicants through comparing submitted evidence against the 'Who you are' bullets. This usually takes two weeks, depending on the number of applications. Those who make it through the initial sift will be invited to a Civil Service Success Profile interview. In the Civil Service we use Success Profiles to help us find the right person for the job. We will be using a mixture of methods to assess your abilities, strengths, experience, technical skills, and behaviours. We highly recommend learning about Success Profiles and using the Situation, Task, Action, Result and Reflection (STARR) framework when structuring your answers. The highest scoring candidates that pass the interview will be offered the roles. The whole process can take up to a month. For external (non-Civil Service) candidates (and unbadged candidates within the Civil Service), as well as the three civil service behaviours stated above, you will be assessed on your analytical knowledge, experience and abilities, and the impact of your analytical work., The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity. Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone's circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review. For nationally advertised roles, the successful candidate(s) will be appointed to a MoJ office location, which may include their nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. This will be discussed and agreed on the completion of pre-employment checks. Some of MoJ's terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made. MoJ candidates who are on a specialist grade, will be able to retain their grade on lateral transfer. Proven Reoffending Analyst, Higher Executive Officer, Analysis Directorate Ministry of Justice, Candidates must be able to show the relevant experience and skills and must meet the criteria for entry: HEO grade - must meet at least one of the following: 1. You possess a numerate degree or a degree that has an analytical, statistical or research element, with a 2:2 or above, or as a higher degree (e.g. MSc, PhD). 2. Alternatively, you have significant experience (usually a minimum of two-years' work experience) evidencing use of data and/or analytical skills (outside of a part-completed Civil Service degree apprenticeship). This role requires access to the MoJ extract of the Police National Computer. This is only accessible from our London HQ at 102 Petty France. This role is London based only and requires regular office attendance. Interviews are likely to take place in December 2024 and will be held via MS Teams. We will keep a merit list for a year for those who successfully pass the interview board but who are not offered a post.,
  • Strong analytical ability, in particular robust data skills, including undertaking quantitative data analysis and presenting data effectively.

  • Please note to safeguard the PNC extract, the successful applicant will be required to secure Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) Level 2 Clearance, which requires continuous residency in the UK for the previous 3 years at the point of NPPV application once in post.
