Full Job Description

As post holder, you will provide a high-quality Reception and support service within our busy Weybourne Day Unit and Reception team in Oncology and Haematology. The Colney Centre is open from 07:30 to 20:00 Monday to Friday and the Weybourne Day Unit runs from 08:00 - 18:00 Monday - Friday and 08:00-16:00 on Saturdays. The post holder would be required to work occasional weekends/Bank Holidays. You will need to be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
You will communicate with patients and their relatives, the general public and a wide range of multi-professional staff, internal and external to the Trust. Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to, being the first point of contact for people visiting the department or calling in with queries, booking outpatient appointments, admitting and discharging inpatients and managing waiting lists as well as other admin related tasks., To support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH's 'PRIDE' values of People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence and demonstrate behaviours that support and encourage an inclusive culture.
+ To provide a support service to the technical, secretarial, medical and nursing staff of the Department.
+ To carry out receptionist duties, including prioritising and arranging appointments and maintaining the various appointment systems, identifying test requests and investigations, and co-ordinating the various clinics within the department.
+ To deal with patients and external and internal staff enquiries in person or via the telephone, in a courteous and confidential manner and provide assistance as required.
+ To ensure patients safety and well-being in the waiting area prior to them being called for their appointment and alerting appropriate staff to any cause for concern.
+ To keep a log of telephone requests for investigations in line with department policy, prioritising these and ensuring messages are conveyed to the appropriate technical staff.
+ To ensure appointment lists are maintained and prepared in readiness for To obtain and prepare notes in readiness for clinics, investigations or at the request of staff within the department.
+ To maintain a record of the transfer of notes to and from the department.
+ To understand the 18 Week Pathway, input the correct RTT codes and validate the patient pathway where appropriate.
+ To liaise with Secretaries and other departments within the Trust as necessary to ensure case notes, X-rays and referrals are available for every patient attending an outpatient clinic. Liaise with external stakeholders to obtain referrals if necessary.

Travelling to work
Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.
We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.
The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.
The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.
The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.
