Full Job Description

AXA Commercial arranges outwards reinsurance to ensure its long-term financial stability and status as an authorised UK insurer, to enable it to provide customers with types of insurance cover that are outside risk appetite and where necessary as part of and to support wider commercial arrangements. As a Reinsurance Assistant, you'll support the Reinsurance Director in advising the business on reinsurance purchase options and in administering all outwards reinsurance arrangements across Retail and Commercial. At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events. What you'll be doing:

  • Support the provision of accurate, complete and timely account profile data to the reinsurance market alongside Underwriting and Claims.
  • Get involved in the collection of property exposure data to be used for AXA Group Risk Management's windstorm and flood modelling work and by the UK Capital Team to calculate STEC.
  • Work with Finance (Record To Close Team) in delivering an accurate and timely monthly reinsurance financial result.
  • Calculate accurate reinsurance recovery amounts and projections that are, where applicable, in accordance with AXA's agreed methodology for periodic payment orders.
  • Support the Reinsurance Director in ensuring that the reinsurance element of each successive financial plan or forecast accurately reflects the plans of the Underwriting departments and is consistent with the overall plans and forecasts.
  • Contribute to the Reinsurance Team's drafting of or reviewing of drafts of outwards reinsurance agreements.
  • Help implement AXA Group standards, recording outwards reinsurance arrangements via e-Declare in respect of Solvency II Pillar III. Occasionally placing reinsurance with individual reinsurers within the set limits of AXA SA.

  • Strong analytical skills and actuarial expertise.
  • Knowledge and experience of Commercial and /or Retail insurance underwriting.
  • Ability and appetite to develop knowledge of reinsurance and classes of insurance.
  • Excellent skills in using software packages, especially Excel, to support analysis and reporting.
  • Drive to develop skills in using platforms that are required for the reinsurance function, such as e-Declare, Elypse, Inpute, In-Contract and Guidewire.
  • Good communicator, actively engage with and negotiate with other business stakeholders.
  • Agility to adapt priorities to changes in the requirements of the business.
  • Policy or reinsurance wording drafting experience is an advantage.
  • As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.
