This is a senior role within our 1 ^st line of defence Privacy Officer team, with accountability for acting as the lead Data Protection Consultant on 1 or more of the team's processes, large initiatives within Handelsbanken UK and supporting the ongoing development of the team's capability. The Privacy Officer team operates as a specialist function within the UK Information Security team. The role reports into the Bank's Data Protection Manager and requires a collaborative individual who has both strong stakeholder management and influencing skills combined with a current and expert level understanding of privacy requirements and their practical application in financial services. They will be comfortable liaising with staff of all levels, including stakeholders at senior management level and supporting the development of other consultants in the team. The role will help to shape our ongoing maturity journey, whilst at the same time ensuring that our current service continues to be effective. The role will help to shape our ongoing maturity journey, whilst at the same time ensuring that our current service continues to be effective. Main Responsibilities
- Provide expert, industry leading subject matter expertise across the UK operations of Handelsbanken (including to branches, departments, Product Owners, System Owners and other stakeholders as required), as well as to complex programmes/change initiatives in the Bank's IT Modernisation programme, to ensure the bank processes personal data in compliance with UK legal and regulatory privacy requirements.
- Support, coach and mentor as required other members of the Privacy Officer team, to support ongoing development and team delivery and capabilities.
- Take ownership for establishing, leading and maturing an effective Data protection 'Community of Practice' in the Bank, driving the adoption and understanding of relevant data protection processes, exchanging knowledge on best practice and cultivating a sense of community
- Deputise for elements of the reporting manager's role, on an ad-hoc basis, to cover absences, periods of increased workload, etc
- Act as a specialist owner and be responsible for the effective design, operation and ongoing enhancements of 1 or more of the team's specialist data protection processes and controls, including leading the planning, development and the delivery of aspects of the team's data protection plan, and providing good quality status/delivery performance reports to management on these deliverables as required.
- Lead on the design and implementation of assigned policy framework initiatives to ensure privacy and information security risk is effectively managed across the bank.
- Support and lead, where required, business units to undertake Privacy Impact Assessments, and provide privacy support and requirements into processes managed by the UK Information Security team (as required), to ensure appropriate risk assessment and treatment of privacy requirements and risks in business units, projects and change initiatives.
- Represent the Information Security team with a range of different stakeholders as a trusted privacy advisor, finding pragmatic and cost-effective solutions that efficiently support customer needs, business requirements and privacy best practice and UK regulatory requirements.
- Act as lead Duty Incident Manager on a shared rota basis to manage information security and personal data breaches in accordance with the information security incident management processes, ensuring impacts and risks are appropriately identified, assessed and mitigated.
- Support the bank's Procurement, Information Security and Legal teams, as required, to ensure privacy risks are identified and mitigated in third party supplier arrangements and appropriate GDPR requirements are built into contracts Ideal Candidate Research (by Harvard University) shows that women are particularly likely to second guess themselves and not apply - so if you are worried you don't meet all the criteria, get in touch anyhow and let us do the worrying…
- lead, coach and support the development of other privacy consultants and / or analysts, including their wellbeing and performance. Experience of line management and / or managing the delivery of a virtual team preferred.
- drive and influence decision making to surface and mitigate operational issues and privacy risks across a wide range of stakeholders, up to and including senior management / executive.
- plan, organise and prioritise tasks and projects, manage competing priorities and stakeholders effectively.
- own and / or oversight the delivery of key processes and/or improvement projects.

- have excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both written and spoken English.
- Strong communicator and ability to successfully communicate complex data protection requirements to non-technical stakeholders.

- Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively.
- Positive, collaborative and builds and maintains effective relationship with stakeholders across an organisation
- Strong practical experience of applying and interpreting UK privacy law (e.g. DPA, PECR, GDPR, Lawful Business Practice Regulations, ICO Codes of Practice); and
- Working knowledge of information security good practice is preferred.
