Full Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Senior Genomics Technician to work within the Genomics Research Platform and Single Cell Laboratory, based within the R&D Department at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. Our lab uses state-of-the-art genomics technologies to enable fast tracking of research into clinics. The role calls for someone with a keen interest in genomics, preferably with some experience in NGS or single cell technologies or histology techniques to support our service provision to facilitate clinical and academic research with the ultimate aim of improving patient outcome,

  • Conduct experiments for assigned projects using existing SOPs with attention to detail
  • Conduct experiments for single cell transcriptomics, spatial transcriptomics using workflows established in the la
  • Process samples for bulk DNA and RNA sequencing using workflows established in the lab
  • Ensure project records are accurate, up-to-date and complete
  • Operation and day-to-day maintenance of equipment within the lab
  • Conduct R&D projects to optimize and validate new workflows and technologies
  • Liaise with the bioinformatician to ensure timely delivery of data and completion of projects
  • Work with researchers and team members to understand work requirements and priorities and be responsive to changing priorities

    As Senior Genomics Technician, you will undertake assigned scientific projects using a wide range of genomics workflows. These may include single cell, bulk cells and spatial transcriptomics experiments. You would be expected to contribute to optimization of workflows for R&D projects and emerging cutting-edge technologies. You will contribute to the various support and training tasks as part of a team to ensure outputs are delivered timely and effectively.You will hold at least a BSc (or equivalent) in Biology/Life Sciences or relevant discipline plus experience gained through working in a research/service lab. Knowledge, skills and experience in genomics techniques is essential.

    The Genomics Research Platform at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTFT) and King's College London (KCL) is a collaboration between one of the largest and most successful hospitals in the UK, GSTFT, and one of the world's top universities, KCL. The Genomics Research Platform operates as a service provision lab and as an R&D lab. Our team of highly trained scientists with expertise in single cell genomics and next generation sequencing supported by a streamlined bioinformatics service provision facilitates broad range translational research studies. This is an exciting and challenging role which will require string technical and communication skills.
