Senior Journalist Reporter (Politics) : EXTEND

BBC Norfolk has a really exciting opportunity for a political reporter to join our news team. We are looking for a creative and tenacious reporter to hold those in power to account and to explain the consequences of their decisions to our audience in the most engaging way.
This is a permanent contract for a Senior Broadcast Journalist to join the Norfolk local story team in the role of Political Reporter.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
The Politics Reporter needs to deliver digital content, content for audio programmes and bulletins and react to breaking news. You must be a key contributor to the daily and weekly news planning process. You will have a passion for politics and be familiar with the national political agenda, keep tabs on all of our local MPs, as well as keeping across the work of county, district and parish councils. You will also be expected to deliver your own original journalism and deal with complex editorial and legal questions.
Primarily working in the newsroom in Norwich when not out at council meetings or interviews, you'll also be expected to work alongside television colleagues producing content for the weekly "Sunday Politics". This role requires flexibility to make sure we're there when the stories happen which may include evenings and occasionally weekends.
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
As a political reporter you'll be well across the national and local political agendas, you'll know all the MPs in the county and make sure they have your number in their phones. You'll relish finding nuggets by studying agendas and minutes of council meetings. You'll have an instinct for which stories matter to our listeners' lives and make sure they hear it from us first.
You need to be a self-starter with plenty of ideas. You'll need to be able to explain complex situations in a simple and captivating way. You will have the confidence to hold those in power to account and the attention to detail to make sure they don't get off the hook.
You should be passionate about politics and be the go-to person with any political queries from the team. You must work well under pressure and manage your time well. You'll be very familiar with the BBC's editorial guidelines and values and passionate about upholding them.

Salary: £39,800 - £45,000 per annum depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
