Full Job Description
We are looking for a dynamic applicant for this trail blazing post, an enthusiastic and experienced Occupational Therapist who can inspire and develop the role within Older peoples Community mental health services. There is a specific focus on the rehabilitation of people with psychosis, enabling patients to optimise their engagement in their communities and fulfil their occupational aspirations and abilities.Main duties of the job The Job sits within the Stepped Care Therapy team, which is made up of Psychologists and Occupational Therapy staff. They are supervised by a senior OT and support 3 other Band 5 posts with the same recovery focus for older people with psychosis. Training is provided. There are fantastic opportunities to use occupational formulation and treatment planning. Please refer to the attached job description and person specification for full details of responsibilities. + The post holder will provide specialist occupational therapy interventions underpinned by the Model of Human Occupation and the principles of recovery and enablement. + The post holder will use specialist skills and specialist clinical reasoning to manage a caseload with complex needs, working with a high degree of autonomy and referring to senior staff when necessary. + The post holder will apply a high level of understanding of the effects of cognitive impairment and disability on occupational performance and provide training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to the service user's social and physical environment. + The post holder will provide other therapeutic interventions appropriate to their training and knowledge base to people both with dementia and functional mental health conditions. + The post holder will undertake the role of care co-ordinator for a defined clinical caseload of service users with complex mental health needs. + The post holder will ensure that all modification to treatment plans/interventions will involve the service user and where appropriate the carer; collaboratively identifying, pursuing and reviewing goals in the context of care planning. + The post holder will plan and implement specialist individual and/or group interventions collaboratively, to enable service users to achieve valued goals and satisfactory occupational performance outcomes. + The post holder will promote social inclusion and physical and mental well-being using evidence based practice. + The post holder will work collaboratively with all disciplines as part of the (mental health) stepped care therapy service. + To provide OT mental health interventions to people on discharge from hospital. + To work closely with colleagues in the mental health integrated care team, the neighbourhood team and the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment team to ensure smooth transitions of care and joint work. + Ability to work flexible including working outside core hours if clinically required. + The post holder will provide leadership to junior occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants within area of specialism and designated work area, through professional supervision and appraisal. + The post holder may be expected to provide guidance and/or leadership to qualified and unqualified staff from other disciplines. + The post holder will undertake the supervision of occupational therapy students on practice placements. + The post holder will be expected to contribute to the leadership of service areas when this is required. + The post holder will maintain standards of occupational therapy practice as directed by the Trust AHP Lead in accordance with HCPC and COT standards. + The post holder will participate in the planning, development and evaluation of occupational therapy services within a designated area, holding responsibility for defined projects. + The post holder may be asked to deputise for senior staff, holding responsibility for managing shifts or service areas for a designated period e.g. a shift, or in specified absence periods.
