Full Job Description

A Senior Product Manager will use their knowledge of user needs and business goals to frame and solve problems. They will also set priorities for delivery teams. You will be responsible for the overall vision and quality of the product being delivered sometimes in conjunction with a Lead Product Manager or Head of Product. You will identify opportunities for improving business outcomes and enhancing benefits, looking to continuously improve the quality, capability, and efficiency of your product. You will have the final say on quality and whether something is ready to be released into production. You may be asked either to be responsible for a single, complex, large product, or multiple related products. In addition, you may line manage, coach and mentor Associate Product Managers and Product Managers, and be involved in recruitment related processes. We value diversity and inclusion and welcome applications from the widest diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. We particularly encourage applications from women, people with disabilities and LGBT+ as they are currently under-represented in the Home Office at this grade level. Appointments will be made on merit based on fair and open competition. Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. Where this is the case, employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in the office. Applicants can raise any queries to the email address at the bottom of the advert. The Home Office works to build a safe, fair, and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counterterrorism, policing, fire, crime, drugs policy, immigration, and passports. The Police National Computer (PNC) is one of the UK's critical national law enforcement data systems. The implementation of the Law Enforcement Data Service (LEDS) by the National Law Enforcement Data Programme (NLEDP) will replace the PNC and develop new data services. The programme will deliver a range of benefits, principally the avoidance of future running costs associated with PNC, but also substantial end user efficiency and effectiveness benefits. The LEDS programme is part of the National Law Enforcement Data Portfolio (NLEDP). The other programmes that are part of this portfolio, and in most cases have interdependencies, are the Police National Computer (PNC), the Police National Database (PND), National Identity Access Management (NIAM), Law Enforcement Cloud Platform (LECP), Law Enforcement Community Network (LECN), Law Enforcement Products and Services (LEPS) and the Hendon Virtual Estate (HVE). Your main day to day responsibilities will be:

  • Forming the vision for the product(s) you own and engage teams and stakeholders in the development of that vision over time.
  • Leading the production of roadmaps, release plans and lifecycle plans for the delivery and maintenance of the product(s) from inception right the way through to retirement as well as inputting into the departmental wide approach to road mapping/lifecycle planning. This includes documenting transformational items that support the development of future product roadmaps.
  • Taking a product through its lifecycle (e.g. discovery, alpha, beta, live) including service assessments.
  • Representing users and focus on their needs throughout the delivery process.
  • Leading the prioritisation process for the work that needs to be done by the development team by creating and maintaining a product backlog in coordination with other Product Managers that balances immediate user needs with the long-term investment in development and overall business benefits.
  • Providing final sign off on any completed functional development prior to the deployment to a production environment for your product(s).
  • Taking the lead in using product or service usage data, and user feedback to devise new ideas for functionality or new ways of working with a continuous improvement mindset and take a lead in promoting such evidence/data driven design across the wider department.
