Full Job Description

Substantive post - 36 hours per week
Fixed-Term contract/ secondment to September 2025 - 37.5 hours per week.
We are looking for a dynamic individuals to join our Operations Centre team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Department and expand on your current skill set, which will include system wide interaction and real time operational problem solving.
The Operations Centre is the hub of the Hospital and ultimately responsible for patient safety and capacity management within the Trust.
You will work with the hospital 24/7 team to support clinical demand and support patient safety out of hours.
This environment will give you a varied and fast-paced experience where no two shifts will be the same.
The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse role covers 24 hours a day. The role is distinctively different during in hours and out of hours. In hours, includes working with the Divisions to achieve performance indicators and quality standards. Out of hours, you will support the Site Matron for escalation processes, operational and staffing issues, escalating to the on-call teams as required and lead the co-ordination of the Hospital 24/7 Team, prioritising and delegating workload and resources effectively.
Full or part-time hours considered, + Facilitate the Operations Centre daily meetings, co-ordinate the admission of emergency patients, ensuring appropriate placement of patients according to their clinical need and in conjunction with the Trust's divisions, support elective patient placement.
+ Monitor the trigger factors associated with, and when necessary implement the Trusts Escalation Protocol in order to minimise bed crisis through effective planning. Support the Trusts response to patients who are likely to exceed the targets set out in the NHS plan.
+ Monitor and facilitate actions to ensure national and local developments for Government targets are met. For example, liaison with the Commissioning Groups concerning delayed discharges.
+ Contribute to the corporate agenda for capacity and target management by participating as a full member of the Site Operations Team. Advise and support the Site Matron on admission, discharge and patient flow issues. In the event of a critical bed state, open escalation ward areas for patient placement ensuring patient safety remains a priority at all times.
+ Liaise with other Trusts in the area regarding bed states. If necessary, co-ordinate the transfer of patients to and from other hospitals and units.
+ Manage and co-ordinate any critical incident which occurs within the Trust.
+ Participate in and co-ordinate the Trust's Emergency Response Teams to fire, security alerts, cardiac arrests and other clinical emergencies.
+ Play an active role in the action of sectioning patients under the Mental Health Act and use of the Child Protection Order.
+ Allocation of bank and Agency staff and redeployment of nurses within the Trust to match resources to workload. Record all actions taken on safecare so to maintain live and accurate records.
+ Undertake designated responsibilities in the event of a "Major Incident". Assume the role of Major Incident Co-ordinator until relieved by the Site Matron or other experienced manager., Visa and Immigration

Travelling to work
Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.
We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.
The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.
The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.
The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.

DBS
