In January 2022, Barking and Dagenham achieved a significant milestone by establishing its first two Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) as part of the national MHST rollout during Wave 5 / 6. We have since received further funding for an additional team Wave 9. Each team is currently assigned to five schools, making a profound impact on our community. We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity to support the launch of a new, fourth Mental Health Support Team (MHST) in Barking and Dagenham, scheduled to go live in September 2024. This team will be stationed in schools and colleges across the borough, providing invaluable support to children and young people., As the Senior Therapist, you will lead a team that builds upon the existing support structure in schools, including school counsellors, nurses, educational psychologists, and voluntary sector professionals. Together, your team will address mild to moderate mental health issues within the school setting. Additionally, you will provide consultations to assist staff in supporting children and young people with more complex needs, helping them access appropriate support and establishing a link to CAMHS and other relevant services.   • Providing consultation to education colleagues and supporting education settings to embed a whole school approach to wellbeing
  • Developing and delivering evidence-based time limited interventions to young people within education settings
  • Developing and delivering training packages to education colleagues
  • Evidencing the outcomes of the MHST service
  • Providing clinical supervision to trainee Education and Mental Health Practitioners.
  • Specific supervisory training (see guidance below) for this role will be provided if successful candidates do not already hold this qualification.

    We are currently seeking experienced, motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible individuals who are registered with a professional body to join the cohort of Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) for the new team., Supervisors will need to be experienced MH professionals / practitioners as evidenced by normally two or more years working therapeutically, clinically, or consultatively within a CYP Educational or Mental Health Setting, with children and young people with mental health difficulties.
  • We are looking for a practitioner with experience of working in a setting where children and young people's mental health has been the primary focus. These posts are open to professionals with a variety of relevant backgrounds, but post holders must evidence meeting the essential criteria listed in the person specification within the job description. In addition to the above clinical knowledge, experience and competencies, supervisors will be expected to have experience of delivering CBT informed practice and supervision. Experience of delivering these interventions at low intensity is desirable.,
  • Successful completion of a postgraduate training ( psychotherapist, systemic therapist, nursing, social work, occupational therapy,) or equivalent substantial CAMHS clinical experience
  • To be eligible for registration as a full member of the appropriate professional body ( BACP, BABCP,HCPC, UKPC, NMC)

  • To have completed formal CBT training ( CYP-IAPT)
  • To have completed CYP supervisors training course

  • Experience delivering CBT interventions to CYP and their families
  • Experience of managing risk / safe guarding in CYP settings

    In line with the Government's priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people, the new MHSTs are an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence-based early intervention for children and young people, working across both educational settings and healthcare sectors in England.

    NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex. Probationary Period This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff). High Cost Area Supplement London This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum).
