Could you become a Shared Lives Carer and change the life of an adult? This is an alternative to traditional types of care and support.

Over 18 with experience in care work
- Excellent Verbal, Written and Communication Skills
- Able to build positive working relationships with the people you are supporting
- Patient, imaginative and Flexible

The Shared Lives Carer scheme is similar to an adult version of fostering. You will be vetted and checked by Reading Borough Council for suitability and matched with suitable service user(s).

Although carers are self-employed, they are recruited and supported by the Shared Lives Scheme.

Shared Lives Carers are ordinary people from the local community. You will be self-employed and paid for the support you provide.

Could you offer:

FULL TIME CARE (Long Term Placement) - where the adult lives with you in your home and is treated like family.

Pay varies between £194.01 to £324.90 per week depending of the level of need of the individual you support. You would also receive Rent and contributions towards utilities and food provisions, approx. £156.31 per week.

OVERNIGHT/RESPITE CARE - where the adult stays in your home for a short period of time to give their permanent carers a break.

Pay varies between £56.16 to £65.05 (3.30pm - 9.30am) for the session. Or 24hr overnight Respite stay between £112.32 - £130.10 (you would not be required to stay awake during the night)

DAY SUPPORT - you would provide support from your home and support an adult to take part in social and leisure activities (such as shopping, going to the cinema, attending football matches or getting involved with the local community).

Pay varies between £28.08 - £32.53 per half session (3.5 hrs) or, between £56.16 - £65.05 for the session (4 - 6 hrs).
