Full Job Description

  • To oversee day to day Site Management for the school building, ensuring the premises are maintained to a high standard
  • To provide reactive/proactive building maintenance and escalate more serious building issues to the School Business Leader/Head and to assist with procuring and overseeing contractors' work
  • To ensure the smooth running of the school by assisting with the moving of furniture, parcels and other items
  • To oversee the cleaning of the school building, and manage the cleaning team
  • Specific tasks
  • On a daily basis walk the school building and inspect the facilities, noting down any issues for later rectification works or escalation to others
  • Proactively maintain, repair and ensure the general good order of the school buildings, fixtures and fittings as well as the outdoor areas
  • Undertake planned and reactive maintenance of the school including, but not limited to:
  • Produce and maintain a calendar of planned preventative maintenance ensuring that work is scheduled and orders are placed where required in conjunction with the School Business Leader
  • Ensure that a supply of consumable items for maintenance and cleaning are maintained and reordered as required
  • Maintain an asset database, ensuring that assets are kept secure and are accounted for, and the disposal of assets is appropriately authorised and documented
  • Compliance
  • Perform weekly fire alarm testing and assist in termly fire drills
  • Report Health and Safety issues immediately to the School Business Leader or Headteacher
  • Carry out H&S risk assessments of the school site and oversee the rectification of issues identified
  • To carry out all operations associated with the control of Legionella in water systems in accordance with the risk assessment and written schedule (training provided)
  • Check emergency lighting on a regular basis ensuring compliance with the regulations
  • Arrange all statutory inspections/maintenance visits for premises equipment i.e. fire alarm, intruder alarm, pest control, water testing, fixed wiring and portable appliance testing, maintaining professional records for audit and inspection.
  • Carry out weekly visual inspections of firefighting equipment and means of escape
  • Ensure the school complies with all relevant buildings related legislation
  • Ensure employees are fully informed of their own responsibilities for acting within the law

  • To carry out ordering in line with financial processes and procedures
  • To check and file delivery notes and monitor the quantity and quality of products received, reporting irregularities to the management team
  • To minimise resource wastage and optimise efficiency
  • To assist with stock management and control, ensuring appropriate levels of stock are maintained
  • Schedule:
  • 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, occasional weekend work for school events or contractors, It is a requirement that all our staff have an enhanced DBS check as we are committed to the welfare and safeguarding of all pupils and staff. All appointments are subject to detailed and satisfactory references and health-check being received.

    Governors are looking to appoint a Site Manager from January 2024. This role requires someone with hands-on building maintenance and caretaking experience, with an exacting eye for detail as we have high standards across all areas of school. Working hours are to be agreed with the successful candidate, but will require opening and closing of the building each day. We are seeking to appoint someone who has the ability to turn their hand to most things, who is comfortable and competent carrying out routine repairs primarily to the school's building fabric, basic plumbing, carpentry and decoration, and is also comfortable with ensuring compliance with H&S, Fire Safety and Legionella controls. You will need:
  • A good understanding of Health & Safety at work
  • Willing to work flexibly and with enthusiasm
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Uphold high standards in the quality of work undertaken personally and by contractors
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people in a professional manner, face to face, on the telephone and in writing
  • Good attention to detail and ability to show initiative
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workload without supervision
