Full Job Description

The post-holder will work as part of the senior anaesthetic team, providing anaesthetic and ICM services across all of the Trust's sites (travel time/mileage remunerated for excess time over and above home to base travel). As a Specialist it is expected that the post-holder will undertake clinical duties independently, and act at the level of an RCoA sessional supervisor when required. The post-holder will be expected to be able to supervise and support Junior Doctors working in anaesthesia.

The Theatres, Anaesthetics and Critical Care Directorate is part of the Surgery Care Group. Surgical services are located at two Acute Hospitals, York and Scarborough and also at Bridlington, a cold, elective site. At Scarborough Hospital surgical services are provided with the support of a brand new 9 bedded Intensive Care Unit (funded to 6 Level-3 beds or equivalent). The main theatre suite comprises five theatres, in addition to which, there are separate maternity theatres. Anaesthetic services are also provided in Bridlington Hospital, approximately 20 miles from Scarborough. The two theatres available provide a highly developed elective Orthopaedic surgery service and day-case surgery for a variety of other specialties on this site. The length of stay for joint replacement surgery in Bridlington Hospital is among the shortest in the country. Future postholders will be encouraged in further service development here.
