Full Job Description

Do you want to be part of a team that influences change and enables people to overcome challenges following their surgery. Are you passionate about promoting and educating others of the unique skills of Occupational Therapy? This role will give you the opportunity to increase you knowledge and skill across a wide range of surgical specialities., We are looking for a permanent band 6 Occupational Therapist based at York Hospital, working part-time (22.5 hours per week). The surgical therapy team is made up of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy Assistants who work across the areas of ; vascular, colorectal and upper GI, urology, head and neck, gynaecology and critical care. You will have access to a support network including Occupational Therapy Clinical Lead, Advanced Clinical Specialist Physiotherapists, operational leadership team, and professional leadership team. We are committed to investment and development across all four pillars of practice. We have a positive culture towards learning and development and have a well-established training programme, senior development forums, clinical and managerial supervision. The role will involve undertaking clinical audits and we encourage the involvement in research. You will also have opportunity to lead on developments within the service and provide supervision and education for junior Occupational Therapist and students.

As part of this role you will apply and promote your expert occupational therapy skills to work across a wide range of presentations and conditions. The role will involve assessment, specialist occupational therapy interventions, a holistic approach to patient centred goal setting with a home first ethos. The caseload will be variable, including patients who have complex rehabilitation and discharge planning needs. Applicants must have a broad range of previous experience including working in an acute NHS setting. As a valued and key member of the MDT we are looking for someone who has a positive, dynamic approach and will undertake leadership roles. The ability to communicate effectively, be proactive, organised, adaptable and have a collaborative approach are key skills we are looking for.
