Full Job Description

What will you be doing?

As a Station Control Assistant, you will provide a comprehensive monitoring and control of the stations’ systems, providing accurate information to all interested parties.

About the role (External)

Your day to day you will:

· Provide regular updates on train and station services to all station users using the information systems available.

· Update station staff and Train Operating Companies (TOCs) on potential service disruption.

· Provide public safety and security information to all station users on a regular basis.

· Operate and maintain station systems and equipment including fire panels, CCTV, car park equipment and customer help points.

· Report equipment faults to the appropriate system owner/maintainer in a timely manner, maintaining a record of each fault occurrence.

· Liaise with Signalling Centres and TOCs regarding train services, maintaining a log of occurrences.

· Assist the station team and perform other duties in light of operational requirements.

· Fulfil allocated duties as prescribed within Emergency Plans.

· Command of English language, both written and oral with a clear and concise speaking voice

· Experience of working in a customer facing environment

· Experience of working effectively as part of a team

· Experience of processing and prioritising complex information in a time-pressured environment

It’s not mandatory to have the below, but it would be desirable to have:

· Ability to demonstrate a proactive concern for accuracy and clarity

· Understanding of train operating companies services and UK railway geography

Our Route

Central route is at the heart of Britain’s railway. The route covers a major part of the national rail network and is a key commuter line in and out of Birmingham, with hundreds of thousands of passengers, and thousands of tonnes of freight carried within our route each week. Within our route is the Chiltern Main Line between London Marylebone and the West Midlands, the Snow Hill line from Stratford-upon-Avon to Worcester, the Cross City line in Birmingham, and lines to other cities including Wolverhampton, Coventry, Walsall, and Oxford.

We are home to Birmingham New Street station, the busiest station outside of London with more than 170,000 passengers using it every day.
