Full Job Description
Working as a key member of the Temple Quarter Programme Change and Transitions Workstream, you'll be pivotal to the success of a high profile and large scale move of students, staff and specialist equipment from across our Clifton estate into our new Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus building, opening in September 2026. You'll plan, lead and manage the successful move of around 1200 people from a number of schools and departments, along with a significant amount of specialised, delicate and highly valuable equipment. Our amazing new 6 storey, 38,000m2 academic building, adjacent to Temple Meads station, represents the biggest capital investment the University has ever made. The role of Moves manager is critical to ensuring the building is ready for staff, students and partners when it opens in September 2026.What will you be doing?
- You'll use your experience to hit the ground running, quickly getting to grips with the existing high level Change and Transitions programme plan and understand the timelines, milestones and dependencies and complexity of the programme
- You'll be ready to lead and inform moves discussions and planning, playing a key role in the Change and Transitions workstream.
- You'll shape up the detailed moves project plan and proactively lead on its delivery while regularly reporting progress.
- You'll manage and flex the plan and foresee issues and risks and respond accordingly, guiding and informing others while anticipating and planning for a range of contingencies/dependencies. Where risks and issues do arise, you'll assess, manage and escalate as appropriate .
- You'll need to forge good working relationships quickly with senior stakeholders involved in the move (Deans, Faculty Operations Directors, Heads of Schools, School and Faculty Managers as well as senior programme colleagues from Campus and Strategic Projects and Programmes and Procurement).
- At all times you'll inspire confidence in both the movers and senior stakeholders that their moves will be delivered in a timely and efficient manner.
- You'll identify, select and engage with an external moves supplier and once appointed, you'll manage that relationship ensuring that the moves contractor is enabled to deliver the service on time, to specification and on budget and that quality is maintained. You'll be the key liaison point between the University and the contractor and will successfully manage any issues that may arise.
- The successful move of specialist equipment is fundamental to the success of the programme and working with academic owners, technical staff and senior stakeholders, you'll need to plan, with the external moves supplier, to ensure that all equipment is decommissioned, packaged, transported, delivered and re-commissioned safely and in a timely manner.
- You'll manage your own time and activities throughout without significant direction, while also leading and advising on moves activities, local task and finish groups and other interventions to ensure timely and efficient moves to the new building.
- When the move-ins commence you'll be 'on the ground' working alongside the moves company, senior stakeholders and the movers themselves to lead and to problem solve, including identifying and delivering last minute rescheduling and changes to plan.
You are highly organised and can bring significant experience delivering major organisational moves involving both people and specialist equipment. Experience of delivering moves within the Higher Education sector or similar large commercial or public sector organisations is desirable. - You offer excellent project planning and project management skills and significant experience of working within multidisciplinary project teams. · You have an understanding of people change management and its importance in the successful move of people.
- You have excellent and highly adaptable communication skills with the ability to build successful relationships with a diverse set of audiences, coupled with excellent customer service skills and the ability to develop good trade relationships.
