Full Job Description

Our taught programmes are innovative and interdisciplinary; academic colleagues and students engage with many urgent concerns facing the world today by understanding Europe's languages, cultures and histories and their impact globally. The SELCS Professional Services team provides a wide range of administrative support to facilitate the delivery of teaching and research activity. The team comprises 15.2 Full Time Equivalents (FTE) which is broadly split between two functions, Teaching and Student Support and Operations. We work collaboratively across the two functions and all team members share responsibilities, learn from and cover for each other as necessary. About the role This post is one of several identical roles and provides professional, comprehensive administrative support for teaching and students in SELCS at all levels. The postholder will work collaboratively, advising and sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues as necessary. They will builds and maintains good working relationships with academic colleagues across SELCS, ensuring administrative tasks are handled appropriately. The post provides line management for up to 3 FTE Administrative Officers at Grade 6. The post is cyclical in nature, experiencing peaks and troughs across the academic year. The postholder is expected to take annual leave appropriately and may on occasion need to work outside of standard office hours in order to meet the requirements of the post (time off in lieu will be given in these instances).

About you The successful applicants will be educated to degree level or with equivalent experience and have substantial experience in Higher Education administration. With demonstrable experience of excellent organisational ability and attention to detail in a comparable previous post, they will need to have excellent communication skills, with a high level of written and spoken English to native-speaker level, and the ability to use an appropriate tone according to different situations. They will be a very strong team player with an ability and willingness to work collaboratively within a context of shared goals and responsibilities, but also be able to work independently as required, and understand when to be proactive and when to escalate issues. The successful candidate will be committed to providing a responsive and helpful service and be able to anticipate issues and adjust approaches when necessary.
