Full Job Description

In conjunction with other members of the management team, to lead in the development and implementation of the Mental Health Urgent Care Centre (MHUCC) The service will operate 24/7 and will be a multi-disciplinary, cross sector service that is practitioner-led and supported by social care, voluntary sector partners and Lived Experience Workers., Provide Operational Management of the Mental Health Urgent Care Centre with responsibility for a 24 hour, 7 day a week service. The MHUCC will ensure service users are supported with an appropriate intervention or redirection within 4 to 12 hours. Service users will be supported with any minor physical health needs with EDs supporting high level interventions. If a service user presents with high level physical health needs, they will be required to present to EDs as it the current model with a view to being and transferred once the service user needs have been met.

Establish and maintain effective inter-agency and inter-team communication and liaison systems including protocols relating to admission and discharge from the ED. Maintain effective joint working with the Inpatient services, CRHTT, catchment CMHTs, PATH, wellbeing team and other community-based teams according to local circumstances.

The MHUCC primary role is to assess mental health symptoms and risk of service users who are admitted and to provide brief interventions to reduce crisis. It is envisaged as an assessment and signpost/refer on service and intervention to treat mental health symptoms will largely take place in the community through self-help, primary care, secondary services and third sector organisations.

The MHUCC will operate with a recovery-focussed approach from the start, using the principles of personalisation of care, co-production and supported self-management. It will be responsive to the needs of the service users and may at times need to be flexible in approach especially in periods of high demand on the wider health and social care system.

The postholder will carry responsibility for leading the MHUCC.
