Full Job Description

The War Terrorism and Political Violence team are looking for an entry level applicant to learn underwriting the class of business 'on the job'. You will be given the tools and support to quickly increase your responsibility in underwriting risks situated across the globe. This will involve various products, working on underwriting focussed projects and continuously developing your skillset. Hiscox Underwriting Ltd will also support you to work towards the ACII qualifications. The role is an ideal starting point to begin an underwriting career, working with a young team who have great ambitions for their portfolio of business and have been growing and delivering new products to the market for a number of years. If you are passionate about politics and international relations, you have the skillset to analyse data with good attention to detail and enjoy building influential, business relationships then this role could be perfect for you. What you'll be doing:

  • Transacting business focussing on 'terrorism only' coverage to begin with and widening the perils as experience and knowledge grows
  • Assisting with managing key broker relationships on a day to day basis
  • Trading electronically using Lloyd's electronic trading systems and email
  • Developing technical underwriting skills with unstructured and structured training
  • Providing an excellent service to brokers

    A basic understanding of Insurance and what underwriting entails
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately
  • A strong team player who is not afraid to get involved and support their team members
  • Interpersonal savvy, a flexible working style and the ability to build relationships with various people
  • Analytical capabilities, will need to be able to analyse numbers at a basic level.
  • Strong attention to detail and grammar skills
  • At least A- Level qualifications, with Maths and English at a high level.

  • Prior underwriting, broking or underwriting assistant experience
  • A qualification or degree of a global political or international relations nature
  • Speak an additional language
