Full Job Description
The successful post holder will work with a team of surgeons to provide inpatient care for both trauma & elective patients. Excellent training opportunities are available in clinic and theatre, as well as exposure to acute trauma. The postholder will contribute to the on call rota alongside FY1/2s and Registrar Doctors., internationally renowned for treatment and research and offers the highest levels of service, and access to world class treatment in Trauma & Orthopaedics, Plastic and reconstructive surgery and rheumatology. It is also home to the Leeds Musculoskeletal Biomedical Research Unit (LMBRU). The substantive post holder will work solely at Leeds General Infirmary for both daytime and out of hours work. Whilst working out of hours you will work with three other tiers of junior staff to provide the acute trauma service. You will be the first contact for the Emergency Department referrals and the admissions unit. You will also be required to support the Foundation Year doctors in the management of inpatients. Excellent training opportunities are available in clinic and theatre as well as a vast exposure to acute trauma.
Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills Essential
- GMC registration with licence to practice.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- 4 Months Orthopaedic experience at FY or CT or equivalent
- Experience of UK Healthcare system Experience Essential
- 6 months experience after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competences, in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills Essential
- Demonstrates understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues
- Ability to prioritise clinical need Qualifications Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
Leeds Teaching Hospitals is a leading healthcare institution, excelling in patient care, teaching & research. We provide Trauma & Orthopaedic services from 2 sites within Leeds. All trauma is admitted to the Leeds General Infirmary and elective work is undertaken at Chapel Allerton Hospital approximately 3 miles from the Infirmary., The CSU provides care for approximately 20,000 in-patients and 110,000 out-patients on an annual basis. The catchment area of the population is approximately 800,000, with a Major Trauma Network & tertiary referral population of 3.5 million from Yorkshire. The Department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery provides Trauma and Elective Orthopaedic services to Leeds residents and beyond. Leeds General Infirmary is the second largest Major Trauma Centre in England. A regional service is also provided for complex and revision arthroplasty, paediatric orthopaedic surgery, foot and ankle surgery and both acute trauma and post trauma reconstructive surgery. A joint hand service is also provided with plastic surgery. The trauma service is based in the Leeds General Infirmary, providing specialist services such as spinal injuries, open fractures, post injury limb reconstruction and complex fracture work. The Trauma service has four dedicated wards plus one paediatric ward including two paediatric HDU beds, a six bedded HDU shared with plastic surgery, and two spinal wards shared with Neurosurgery. There are three dedicated trauma theatres providing a 24 hr seven day service, one dedicated spine and reconstructive trauma theatre, and three dedicated paediatric orthopaedic theatre sessions per week in addition to paediatric trauma lists.
The full time post is available from February 2025 for a period of 6 months and will be based at Leeds General Infirmary. Leeds Teaching Hospitals is the second largest Major Trauma Centre in the UK, based at Leeds General Infirmary.
