Full Job Description

Your weekly duties will be covered on a rota basis on a full shift pattern currently 1:8. The weekly average is 46 hours inclusive of annual leave cover. A week of Outpatient Clinics are factored into the rota. The Paediatric department is located in the separate Woman & Children's wing which displays a state-of-the-art Maternity Suite with 77 beds and a Neonatal Unit with 20 cots, 6 of which are specifically for intensive care/high dependency babies. In addition, we run a separate 14 bedded Transitional Care Ward. The general Paediatric In-Patient Unit (Amazon Ward) is a 30 bedded unit with a separate 9 bedded Paediatric Assessment Unit and an adjoining Children's Out-Patient Unit (Rainforest). You will be encouraged to enter appropriate examinations including MRCPCH and DCH. A structured teaching programme will be offered to you to help to prepare for this. You will attend monthly audit meeting where you will have the opportunity to present your projects. You will be required to complete at least one audit project during your placement. All doctors will be supported to undertake the necessary training for Adult and Paediatric Safeguarding.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Physician to join us on a 6-month contract as a ST1-ST2 level Trust Doctor, enhancing their skillset and confidence under the guidance of an inspiring team at Peterborough City Hospital. Located in a historic Cambridgeshire city, Peterborough City Hospital is a state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility accommodating over 700 inpatient beds on modern wards. Peterborough is accessible by road or train within easy commute distance from London, Cambridge, Leicester or Birmingham. You will be exposed to a variety of experiences by undertaking clinical duties on NICU, the Transitional Care Unit, PAU and Amazon Ward, as well as participating in General Paediatric clinics. We deliver over 4500 babies each year and approximately 350 babies are admitted to the unit each year. You will be exposed to and learn practical procedures such as intubation and LISA (less invasive surfactant administration), umbilical vessel catheterisation, long line insertion and chest drains. You will join an experienced team of Consultants, Registrars, Specialist Doctors and nursing staff who will guide you and ensure you receive a comprehensive training programme with weekly teaching sessions.
