Full Job Description

The Board of Trustees is responsible for defining the strategic direction of Macmillan and ensuring that our policies and strategies effectively support our mission. As a Trustee, you will work closely with our experienced Board, which meets regularly to guide the charity's vision and operations.,

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight to the charity, including setting policies, defining goals, and evaluating performance.
  • Safeguard the reputation and values of Macmillan while ensuring compliance with charity and company law.
  • Monitor the charity's financial stability and the effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Ensure effective recruitment and management of the Chief Executive.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and risk management throughout the organisation.
  • Use your expertise to support sound decision-making and enhance the charity's public benefit.

    Trustee 1: We seek a candidate with deep expertise in healthcare and community medicine to fill the vacancy left by Dame Helen Stokes-Lampard DBE, who recently became the Chief Medical Officer for Health in New Zealand. Your experience in clinical and primary care, particularly in large-scale organisational transformation, will be invaluable.
  • Trustee 2: With our new strategy in development, we are looking for an individual who brings a perspective on healthcare innovation, emerging technologies, and health system transformation. Experience in the HealthTech sector with a proven track record of influencing change in the health system is essential., Trustee 1: Proven experience in clinical and primary care/community healthcare, with a strong focus on leadership, culture, and public health interventions.
  • Trustee 2: Background in HealthTech/innovation with a demonstrable impact on health system transformation.
  • Strong commitment to Macmillan's mission and the ability to address inequalities in cancer care.
  • Strategic vision, independent judgement, and the ability to inspire trust among stakeholders.
  • Adherence to Nolan's seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, and leadership.
