Full Job Description

To be responsible for the management of all aspects of the Young Carers Project and ensuring consistent delivery of high quality services. Main responsibility is for the Young Carers Team. Responsible for operating as a member of the senior management team and take day to day responsibility when necessary.

  • Ensure that young carers and young adult carers are able to access
  • support and that inappropriate caring is challenged where appropriate
  • Ensure appropriate strategies are in place to proactively identify young
  • carers, including via schools, health sources, schools, identified priority geographical areas, voluntary agencies and self-referrals
  • Keep updated with the county young carers strategy and represent the
  • young carers project and the organisation where appropriate and necessary
  • Maintain an awareness of local and national good practice in working with
  • young people and ensure that the young carers team are able to deliver positive outcomes for young carers
  • Lead support staff on a day to day basis to ensure protection of
  • confidentiality of carers/staff/volunteers/trustees information and enable appropriate information sharing within the guidelines and organisational policies and procedures
  • Work closely with others staff members within Carer Support West
  • Cumbria and with other Young Carers staff within the county
  • Identify gaps in service provision, developing business plans, identifying
  • appropriate funding streams and completing applications forms with other team members
  • Ensure outcomes appropriate to different funders are met and evaluation
  • and feedback completed and returned within deadlines
  • Maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Develop and deliver on appropriate methods to monitor and evaluate
  • services to young carers
  • Empower young carers to fully participate in the development and
  • monitoring of internal and external services, and to represent young carers concerns and issues
  • Provide practical support and guidance to the team on specific case
  • issues, including the assessment process, and where necessary, to jointly manage particularly complex cases. Monitor ongoing workloads.
  • Lead on Child protection and ensure these policies and procedures are
  • embedded in the organisation and are proactively followed
  • Work with Chief Officer and Management Team to plan and implement
  • new and existing Quality Assurance Systems including ISO9001 and the Carers Trust Carers Quality mark and take responsibility for carrying out internal audits
  • Deal appropriately with compliments and complaints from the Young
  • Carers' service users and other stakeholders, referring to Chief Officer as appropriate and necessary
  • Identify opportunities to meet gaps in Young Carers' Service and
  • unmet/emerging need, including service development, project development and fundraising
  • Identify through staff supervision and team meetings any necessary
  • training needs, identify appropriate training and liaise with Chief Officer to implement training
  • Produce reports, research and strategies to inform management, board
  • and external stakeholders
  • Create opportunities for raising awareness of young carers to help inform
  • policy and strategy in partner agencies
  • Develop promotional materials to support the teams work
  • Ensure different forms of communication are used to provide information
  • and support to young carers in West Cumbria
  • Ensure the effective delivery of the Young Carers Service as outlined in
  • funding agreements, in particular assessment & reviews, one to one support, group support and activities
  • In collaboration with Senior Management Team colleagues, work with
  • statutory and voluntary partners to help them recognise and incorporate young carers' needs in strategic planning and service provision
  • Work collaboratively with all other projects under the umbrella of Carers
  • Support West Cumbria to raise carers awareness, develop and implement training for professionals and represent the organisation and carers issues on planning boards and meetings as required
  • Effectively manage the performance of the Young Carers Team, including
  • monthly supervision and ongoing appraisal
  • Lead regular team meetings
  • Contribute to the development of organisational policy and practice
  • Ensure that appropriate training and support is provided to members of
  • the team, and share with the wider organisation where appropriate
  • Ensure application of HR Policies and procedures
  • Contribute to the recruitment process of appropriately skilled and
  • qualified staff
  • Recruitment and supervision of volunteers where necessary
  • As a member of the Senior Management team to deputise for the Chief
  • officer and/or Adult Carers Project Manager in his/her absence
  • Keep appropriate records and provide regular reports on activity levels
  • and outcomes, as agreed with the Chief officer
  • Carry out all of the above with an understanding and commitment to

  • Work with support and office staff on a day to day basis to ensure all staff
  • have relevant training and understanding of Carers Support West Cumbria and procedures with regard to data protection, confidentiality and subject access to ensure GDPR compliance
  • Ensure Health & Safety procedures are in place to maintain the safety of
  • young people using the service
  • Ensure that risk assessments and reviews are undertaken and that
  • identified risks are managed and mitigated where possible
  • Carry out all other duties commensurate with the post as directed by the
