Full Job Description

The aim of this role is to ensure a coordinated approach to providing seamless bereavement care and support to women and their families. The post holder will be a practicing midwife who will lead and work within the Women's and Children's Services. The key responsibility will be to ensure that the MBRRACE Perinatal Mortality Review Tool is implemented within maternity services to support bereavement care and learning to improve practice, in line with standards set by MBRRACE, NHS Resolution Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts, and the National Bereavement Care Pathway., The post holder has continuing responsibility for the development and maintenance of the high-quality standards of care designed to address the complex issues surrounding pregnancy loss and to meet the special needs of those suffering bereavement through pregnancy loss. While delivering this service the post holder will work in partnership with team members to act as a resource both within and outside the organisation, strengthening link with health and social care providers., + They will be responsible for working closely with the bereavement midwives to ensure all cases are identified for review and notified to MBRRACE.
+ They will work closely with the bereavement midwives to ensure family engagement is facilitated and that family voice is heard and is incorporated into reviews.
+ May be involved in difficult and highly emotional family situations surrounding issues of pregnancy loss and fetal abnormality.
+ Manages highly emotive and difficult conversations with service users and their family. Communicating information about child bereavement, and managing patient response, including potential verbal abuse.
+ They will maintain responsibility for the organisation of PMRT multidisciplinary review meetings, and consideration of external agencies/trusts that may need to be invited to review meetings.
+ Present cases at the multidisciplinary review meetings.
+ Undertake critical assessment of cases through PMRT review process, whilst maintaining a safety culture .
+ Work with the bereavement midwives and consultant body to ensure that families are informed of review findings. This might be by face-to-face meetings or in writing.
+ Work closely with the Clinical Governance Midwives to ensure that learning identified from PMRT reviews is implemented into practice in a timely manner to support ongoing learning and improvement across the trust.
