Full Job Description
As an apprentice, you'll work at a company and gain hands-on experience. You'll develop new skills while collaborating with seasoned professionals, ensuring a rich learning experience.
What You'll Do at Work
Dive into the exciting realm of Fire and Security Engineering, where you will service, commission, and maintain systems that protect individuals, homes, and properties.
Learn the ins and outs of our innovative fire and security systems, including intrusion detection, CCTV, and access control systems.
Work Experience:
You'll spend significant time at our client sites, where you'll be hands-on with servicing and repairing fire and security equipment. This invaluable experience will immerse you in the world of fire and security engineering.
Collaboration with Qualified Engineers:
Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll work closely with skilled JCI Engineers who will mentor you, guiding your development in engineering skills. This collaborative environment guarantees the support you need to flourish.
Hit the road in your own company van, traveling daily to client premises.
Opportunities for Growth:
Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll have the chance to grow and actively apply the skills and knowledge gained in college in a real-world setting. Our experiential learning approach ensures you develop both technical competencies and practical skills essential for success in the Fire and Security field.
Where You'll Work
The apprentice will primarily travel within the Cardiff region; however, travel may also be required across the South and Northern Wales areas and as far as the Thornton area, depending on job requirements

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Fire emergency & security systems technician
Your Training Plan
Enrol in a Level 3 Fire Emergency and Security Systems Technician qualification delivered by Banham Academy alongside fellow Johnson Controls apprentices
Engage in block release basis training and receive on-the-job guidance from experienced mentors and engineers, This exciting opportunity is field based, meaning that you will be working with our highly skilled engineers travelling between our customer's sites each day. Our work can also involve heavy lifting and working from heights.
GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 5) essential
GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 5) essential
Other Driving Licence (Grade Full) essential

Upon completion of this apprenticeship there are many internal opportunities within the company
Many of our previous apprentices have become lead engineers and take control of their own team and projects

What's Next?
Suitable candidates will be contacted via email to provide their evidence of required certifications. Once we receive the evidence of certification you will have a screening call with a recruiter to discuss the position. Afterward, you will be invited to an assessment centre, where you will participate in a practical assessment, meet the team, and have an interview.
Candidates will receive a response regarding the outcome of their application. If successful, they can expect to begin the apprenticeship with Johnson Controls in the late summer of 2025.
