Summary
University of Sheffield
We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced individual for the position of Research Assistant in Dr Gillian Tomlinson's lab at the University of Sheffield. We take an innovative approach with an emphasis on using zebrafish models to investigate human infectious diseases. The principal aim of this exciting project is to understand the role of type I interferons in host immune responses to bacterial infection. You will contribute to fundamental new insights into how to generate beneficial inflammatory responses that clear bacteria without tissue damage.
Your principal responsibilities will be to generate CRISPant zebrafish larvae and undertake in vivo experiments to evaluate outcomes of bacterial infection. Candidates must have an MSc (or equivalent) in a relevant subject. Applicants should be passionate about animal modelling and immunological research focussed on host-pathogen interactions. You will be competent in molecular biology techniques and have a strong track record in using zebrafish as a model organism. You will have expertise in genetic manipulation of zebrafish including CRISPR genome editing and in vivo quantitative microscopy to evaluate outcomes of infection. Previous experience in computational scripting in R and/or Python would be advantageous.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic research community with a world-class reputation for zebrafish infection/inflammation research, supported by state-of-the art facilities, to contribute fundamental new knowledge on the biology of human infectious disease.
We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.
We're one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University's Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
