Full Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic and highly skilled Material Assessment Manager to join our team. In this role, you will provide technical guidance to support Scientific Regulatory Affairs' responsibility of ensuring that ingredients and materials used to manufacture JTI products are in compliance with JTI internal guidelines and with all applicable local market regulations. You will work under the direction of the SRA Material Assessment Agile Team Director and closely co-operate with the other SRA Conventional Products and SRA Reduce Risk Product teams, as well as with JTI Research & Development. Furthermore, you will support other projects in the Material Assessment Pillar as needed. What you'll do:

  • You will provide technical and scientific interpretation of worldwide regulations pertaining to Japan Tobacco Group products. This task requires an understanding of regulations that control which flavor substances, tobacco ingredients, non-tobacco material ingredients and materials are permitted for use in the manufacture or sale of JTI products in specific markets
  • You will closely interact with persons from Product & Regulatory Affairs Agile Operations, Corporate Affairs, and Legal in HQ and applicable markets to contribute to the monitoring of worldwide technical standards and regulations

  • You will ensure worldwide regulatory compliance of ingredients and materials used by JTI in the manufacture of products in countries where they are marketed
  • You will maintain all required ingredient-related details in the SRA Secure Database and ensure they are available to the Reporting and Systems team in support of worldwide regulatory reporting and pre-market registrations
  • You will identify risks associated with suppliers from the SRA perspective and provide technical guidance on potential necessary risk mitigation measures. During supplier visits and meetings, educate on SRA requirements (i.e., country-specific regulatory requirements) and raise identified issues/risks
  • You will collaborate with different teams to construct and perform material testing to verify that SRA-related information (e.g., certifications, ingredient disclosers, etc.) accurately reflects the materials and to demonstrate the compliance of JTI products (e.g., smoke/vapor chemistry, migration and product safety testing). Scientifically and critically assess the reports generated by internal or external laboratories/institutes
  • You will hold the responsibility for the material qualification, including SRA input in Appollo and the Change Order approval in SAP. Closely interact with Global Iindirect Procurement and R&D and support the maintenance of any specification system for JTG products to ensure the integrity of materials

University Degree in technical/scientific subject; Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or Toxicology preferred
  • +5 years of working experience in the scientific and regulatory affairs area, preferably in the area of material and ingredient assessment. Knowledge of material and product testing, e.g. smoke/vapor analysis, including evaluation of results
  • Expertise in worldwide regulations and standards concerning tobacco products, reduced risk products and electrical consumer goods or other types of consumer goods
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing processes and proven experience in the assessment of materials, tobacco products, and reduced-risk products, including assessment of testing data (e.g., smoke/vapor chemistry, migration and product safety testing)
  • Good knowledge of common PC software (MS Office, SAP, etc.) is mandatory
  • Fluency in English is mandatory. Other languages, especially Chinese, Japanese, French, or German, would be an assets
