Full Job Description

A great opportunity has arisen for a part time Ward Clerk to join our team at Worcester City Inpatient Unit., We are seeking to appoint 2 Ward Clerks for our busy 46 bedded hospital to support. You will be required to assist all staff in providing reception, admin and clerical support to the ward. Duties will include:

  • Ensuring all patient admissions, discharges, transfers, day cases and ward attendees/out-patients are accurately recorded and entered onto the appropriate computerised system
  • To ensure that patient medical records are accurately inputted and kept in accordance with Directorate and Trust directive
  • To be responsible for the booking and co-ordination of transport for patients being discharged if required.
  • You must be organised, able to work under pressure, and possess a flexible approach to duties. Ideally you will have experience of dealing with members of the public and have good interpersonal skills.

Given the current UK immigration regulations this role is not eligible for sponsorship and therefore it is not possible for the Trust to sponsor applicants., The ward clerk/receptionist is an essential position within the Ward Environment. First class customer care is integral to the role. You will aid the ward ensuring accurate records are kept of admissions and discharge, helping to arrange transfers, and related transport needs, both internally and externally. Undertake administration duties that are specific to the role. Provide administrative support as required, for example, typing/word processing, data inputting, filing, scanning/copying, in line with Trust Policies and Procedures. Obtain and retrieve records, as requested, liaising with patients, staff, health professionals or outside agencies.

    You will need to be able to work flexibly and apply a methodical approach to a varying workload in what can be a fast paced, pressurised environment. You should be self-motivated, have excellent communication/interpersonal skills and have the ability to work on your own as well as part of a busy team where the work can be deadline driven. Previous NHS clerical experience is desirable, administrative and keyboard skills would be an advantage. The successful candidate will need an excellent telephone manner and must be able to deal efficiently with members of the public and all disciplines of hospital staff.
