Are you a Physio that enjoys thinking outside of the box, exploring creative ways to engage your patients with their physio goals? If this is you, read more about what a physio role working with people with learning disabilities could offer you. When you're working with people with learning disabilities, every day is different, and you have the freedom to find imaginative ways to work with your patients. Your day might include supporting a young person as they move from school to college or helping an adult to maintain their independence and achieve their personal goals. From keeping mobile to supportive seating, or rehabilitation following an injury, you will have a varied caseload including, rehabilitation, orthopaedics, neurology, falls and mobility, complex postural management. Are you interested in taking the therapeutic principles of exercise and posture and using your skill and imagination to enable adults to achieve their independence? You will access support and training to become specialised in assessing posture and providing therapeutic interventions such as sleep systems, specialist walking aids and seating.,

  • To work as a specialist clinician to utilise, develop and enhance Physiotherapy clinical and professional skills within the Service to deliver high standards of practice.
  • To provide specialist Physiotherapy assessment and treatment to patients within a multi-disciplinary format in clinical care pathways.
  • To take a lead in developing the Service. This involves promoting high quality clinical practice and ensuring professional standards are maintained in the workplace.
  • To deliver a specialist Physiotherapy Service to patients within a variety of settings, requiring flexibility/adaptability in recognising the complexity of these environments to maximise their abilities and opportunities for occupational wellbeing.
  • To work in partnership with team leads, managers and other practitioners in the effective management of referrals, case prioritisation and care co-ordination within clinical care pathways.
  • To work effectively with members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team and other related agencies to ensure a needs-led service is maintained.
  • To attend and or lead clinical case reviews and present appropriate Physiotherapy feedback accordingly.
  • To maintain accurate and timely patient records in the electronic patient record and to fulfil record keeping standards in accordance with Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust policy, CSP and HCPC.

    Experience working with people with learning disabilities is desirable but not essential. Your skills as a Physiotherapist are transferable, and with the support of our team of experienced Physiotherapists and technical instructors to guide you, we will ensure you have the tools necessary.
