Full Job Description
Our current Art Psychotherapist (Band 7) is moving on, therefore we have an 1.0 wte permanent vacancy that we would like to recruit to. The Tamarind Centre is a medium-secure unit for men who have complex needs across mental health and violent offending. The Tamarind Centre works with several other professionals, and we encourage collaboration and innovation to ensure the men we work with get the best service. If you are interested in working in secure services, and broadening your skillset to work flexibly and in emotionally intensive environments we encourage you to speak to us and visit, as you apply.
The role of the Art Psychotherapist is valuable to us, it allows the men in service to access psychological therapies utilising the strengths of creativity and connection in a different form. The current provision extends to a trauma-informed closed group, individual therapy and open ward-based work including some staff support.
You will be joining a team of Practitioner Psychologists, Specialist Psychological Practitioners and Assistant Psychologists, all who have an understanding and respect for your expertise. The Tamarind Centre and psychological professions within are a diverse group, we encourage applications from minoritised groups across the diverse characteristics and welcome you bringing this life experience and knowledge to your work., Part of your role will be to continue the work that the current Art Psychotherapist has begun, and innovate by looking forwards through quality improvement projects or service development. You will be supported by the Head of Art Psychotherapies within the Trust, and have regular clinical supervision from an Art Psychotherapist. In addition, the Division funds forensic art therapy supervision and encourages attendance at local and Trustwide meetings for Art Psychotherapists. This ensures you will retain your skills and knowledge, whilst offering the opportunity to build links across the breadth of Art Psychotherapies that are provided in Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.
To get a real experience of what we are like as a team, and what we hope you can do with us supporting you along the way, we hope you will visit us. Whilst we will miss the person vacating the role, we hope whoever comes into the role, they will feel connected, welcomed and pushed to be the best they can be. In doing so, making the role that they can envision will give them and the service users pride to be a part of. This ensures that the service we offer is built upon a genuine humanness, transparency and care, in addition to the Trust values., Our Trust is committed to treating individuals fairly and ensuring they have the same opportunities to fulfil their potential, even if this means doing things differently for different people sometimes. We are working hard to ensure our workforce reflects the diversity within Birmingham and Solihull and that our services meet the needs of all diverse service users and carers.
The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As part of our safe recruitment practice pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. As part of the selection process you may be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, however all cases of criminal record history are dealt with on a case by case basis.
Please note, if applicable for your role you will be required to cover the cost of your DBS certificate. This will be deducted from your salary over 3 months. You will also be required to sign up to the DBS Update Service before commencement with the Trust.
All successful applicants will be required to complete the Trust's induction programme. The Fundamental (Statutory and Mandatory) training will be in an e-learning format. You will be required to complete training modules online (approx. 9-14 hours depending on post) by the end of your first week with us.
If you are successful at the shortlisting stage of the recruitment process we may contact you via email to advise you of the interview details. Please ensure you access your email account from which you applied regularly once the position has closed.
If applicable to your role, the Trust will require you to sign up for the DBS Update Service. The Trust will reimburse this. You will be contractually obliged to maintain your subscription.
