Full Job Description

The Children's Safeguarding Practitioner will work as a committed and expert practitioner within a specialist team. This role involves delivering a safeguarding service to the highest standard, including giving expert advice on the day-to-day management of children and their families, participating in risk assessments and delivering specialised safeguarding supervision. The post holder will support frontline practitioners in developing reports and forming safeguarding plans. This is a post that requires clinical knowledge but does not deliver direct patient care.
To have responsibility and professional accountability as Safeguarding Practitioner for safeguarding children with a particular focus on contextual safeguarding (which includes Child Exploitation)
The post holder will be a committed and expert practitioner as part of a specialist team to deliver a safeguarding service that's ensures quality training, supervision, audit and expert advice is available to ensure the trust meets its statutory responsibilities in safeguarding children.

The post holder will deliver specialist safeguarding supervision to health professionals on issues related to safeguarding children
+ Act as an advocate for children and young people, raising awareness of their needs and actively promoting the philosophy of children at the centre of care is paramount.
+ To ensure expert advice and support is available on the day to day management of children and families were there are issues or concerns in relation to safeguarding.
+ The post holder will rotate into the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) between Birmingham and Solihull and be part of a co-located multi agency team including police officers, social workers and other providers.
+ Participate in the MASH risk assessment to inform case management of children at risk of harm advising partners on health issues and challenging decisions as appropriate.
+ Participate in Contextual Safeguarding forums to inform case management of children at risk of exploitation advising partners on health issues and challenging decisions as appropriate.
+ To develop, facilitate and evaluate training packages within the organisation and as needed in partnership with other agencies where multi agency training is provided.
+ To work with a range of key professionals/agencies in order to contribute to the on-going development and delivery of services designed to protect children and young people from harm and promote their welfare through safeguarding processes.
+ To handle highly complex and sensitive information relating to child Safeguarding, including communicating and receiving this information with others. This includes communicating highly complex information to both internal and external parties.
+ Communicating highly sensitive information regarding child safeguarding concerns to key stakeholders.
+ To deliver specialist safeguarding supervision to health professionals on issues related to safeguarding children, facilitating reflective and critical analysis against agreed outcomes.
+ To support frontline practitioners in the development and/or analysis of case chronologies that clearly identify risks and to address the issues identified and minimise the risk of recurrence.
+ To support practitioners to produce factual reports to present as evidence to safeguard children and young people.
+ To analyse prepared statements for court from practitioners for court proceedings to ensure they are factual and support practitioners to attend and give evidence in the legal
+ To provide staff with support during police interviews, where they are required to give evidence to support a child protection investigation.
+ Practice in accordance with the professional, ethical and legal codes of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and the trusts protocols, policies and guidelines.
+ Meet the organisations requirement for statutory/mandatory training.
+ Participate in relevant local, regional and national continuing professional development to maintain named nurse competencies.
+ Review and implement Safeguarding policies and procedures.
+ To engage with the receipt of regular safeguarding supervision and undertake reflective practice.
+ To review and update Trust policies relating to own area.
+ Commitment to keeping up to date with current research/evidence and considering implications of the same on local safeguarding practice.
+ Act as an autonomous practitioner when advising and supporting decision making.
+ To undertake audit and produce factual reports based on the results ensuring the action plan/learning is shared with the appropriate divisional management team.
+ To be actively involved in producing the appropriate report as part of an investigation when a child has died or has sustained life threatening injuries a s result of abuse or neglect in line with statutory guidelines.
+ To recognise the potential personal impact of working in safeguarding/child protection on self and others and seek support and help when necessary.
+ In line with the Trusts being a major provider in Community and Primary care services, the post holder will be expected to support these developments and take responsibility for areas of responsibility within any future service developments.
To undertake other duties commensurate with this grade of post in agreement with the relevant line manager.
