Full Job Description

Are you ready for a challenging and rewarding role that involves protecting the rights of vulnerable adults and ensuring their best interests are upheld?

Join the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and Mental Capacity Act Team, facilitating the Council's ability to grant standard authorisations to care homes, nursing homes and hospital wards. We act as a source of support and advice to teams for matters regarding the Mental Capacity Act and best interest decision making.

As a Best Interest Assessor, you'll work within a small, dedicated team to assess residents in care homes, determining if a deprivation of liberty is occurring. Responsibilities include conducting DoLS assessments, maintaining accurate case records and offering expert consultation. Assessments involve face-to-face discussions with adults, evaluating care plans and assessing their capacity to understand their needs.

Our ideal candidate will have at least 3 years' experience as a registered Social Worker or Occupational Therapist, along with a Best Interests Assessor qualification. Expertise in the Mental Capacity Act 2005, its Code of Practice and the connection between DoLS and safeguarding principles is essential. Success in this role requires strong record-keeping, clear reporting aligned with legal standards and the ability to assess, evaluate, and analyse complex evidence effectively for sound decision-making.

If you have good knowledge of the social impact of disability, illness and injury on individuals and families and would like to be the person to make a difference, apply now.
