Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity to work in the increasingly specialist field of Neurology. The post holder must be knowledgeable, experienced and have a good ability to work in a small team. They must have had experience of working in this specialist environment.They must be able to undertake specific clinical practice skills relevant to the Jill Rowe Neurology Ambulatory Unit.

The Neurology Ambulatory unit provides outpatient infusions and procedures for the Neurology service. It also facilitates certain Neurology clinics. The services provided are ever evolving and expanding so it is an exciting time to join the team. It is open Monday to Friday and is operational from 08.00 till 16.00 excluding bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

To supervise and support team members such as staff nurses, healthcare support workers, agency nurses and bank staff.

To take charge of the unit when required. To assess and monitor staffing and resource requirements effectively and efficiently and respond to changing situations, for example, prioritizing patient needs, work load requirements and staffing issues.

To have direct responsibility for patient care in relation to infusions, investigations and treatments.

To provide specialist skills in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluating patients with neurological conditions. This involves initiating and monitoring of patients on new therapies as well as caring for those from newly diagnosed throughout the disease course.

To deliver a specialized home therapy training and treatment program for patients with neuropathy.

To deliver a Neuro Plasma Exchange service for patients with neurological conditions.

To deliver a treatment service for patients with neurological disorders. As well as emerging treatments for Neurological disorders as they become available in the NHS.

To carry out investigations such as cognitive assessments, dexterity and power assessments, walking assessments and visual acuity tests .

To use core clinical skills such as assessment, cannulation, venepuncture, Intramuscular injections, intravenous drug preparation and administration, blood glucose monitoring, EGC's, observation of vital signs and point of care testing.
