Full Job Description

Birmingham City Council's Neighbourhoods Division is seeking to recruit a Community Development Projects & Initiatives Officer to join the Selly Oak Neighbourhood Network Scheme (NNS). The Neighbourhood Network Scheme helps adults to lead happy, healthy and independent lives through community activity. Enabling citizens over 50 and adults with additional needs to access community-based support, improving their well-being and quality of life. As the Community Development Projects and Initiatives Officer you will assist the Community Support and Development Officer responsible for the Selly Oak NNS to provide a programme of capacity building for community assets and support them with the delivery of projects and activity that align with NNS aims. The role will entail grant management, including appraisals and applicant support, visits to ongoing projects to assist community assets with monitoring, guidance, evaluation and development. Identification and mapping of community assets across the constituency and identification of gaps in community provision.

You will need to have experience in community development and support, be an excellent communicator, with the ability to engage with a wide variety of people and stakeholders. Experience with Microsoft Office and confidence with spreadsheets and data-handling is essential. Please note a relevant qualification in community development is desirable however relevant experience will be considered. The role will require travel around the Selly Oak constituency, therefore a driver's license and access to own transport is essential. Shortlisted candidates will be asked at interview to present a short 5-10 minute presentation on "What is a Neighbourhood Network Scheme and what does community mean to you."
