Full Job Description

We are looking to recruit a dynamic, motivated Psychiatric Consultant to work on Athelon Ward. Athelon is a brand new, 14 bedded, mixed gender, ward based in the city of Worcester. Worcestershire is a classic mix of city and country living which offers an excellent work life balance. You will be working alongside a SAS grade colleague. Designated office space will be provided along with a trust laptop and smartphone. The Trust is committed to delivering the best mental health care and support the leadership development of their clinicians. We aim to reflect the diversity of our population and practice social inclusion. The post, created due to service redesign, is responsible for fourteen inpatient patients and patients on leave from Athelon Ward along with support from an Associate Specialist Psychiatrist and Junior Doctors (FY1 Doctor and CT1 Doctor). The Trust views this post as an opportunity to develop clinical leadership within the multi-disciplinary team and to contribute to the operation and the function of inpatient pathway. The post will contribute to necessarymodifications to improve arising issues within the structure and function of the Athelon Ward which is a new development in Worcestershire. This post has been deemed by the Trust as eligible for relocation expenses which will be applicable for suitable successful candidate(s). Please see attached attached policy. Main duties of the job This will requireclose working with the Managerial and Clinical Leadership Team within theinpatient pathway. The post holderwill offer clinical supervision to Junior Doctors and the Associate SpecialistPsychiatrist. The main duties include :

  • On a day-to-day basis theConsultant Psychiatrist will be in a close working relationship with the Ward Teamand other Inpatient Mental Health Unit Teams.
  • They will have a close workingrelationship on clinical maters withthe Inpatient Multi-disciplinary Teamand in part provide important liaison with other doctors in Primary andSecondary Care including the Community Assessment & Recovery Service andHome Treatment Psychiatrists and other psychiatric teams.
  • To supervise and manage JuniorDoctors.
  • On a more strategic level theywill relate to the leadership and management structures of the Adult MentalHealth and Learning Disability Service Delivery Unit.
  • From an overall professionalprospective they will support the Clinical Directors and relate to the MedicalDirector; all are ultimately responsible within the Trust to the ChiefExecutive.
  • They will participate in an annualjob plan and appraisal.
  • The above duties will account for10 PAs

    Essential
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • CCT holder or equivalent (or within 6 months of becoming eligible for CCT)
  • Current full registration with the GMC (or eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment).
  • GMC Licence to practice.
  • MRC Psych (or equivalent)
  • Approval (or eligible for approval) under Section 12 (2) of the Mental Health Act.
  • Approved Clinician Status.
  • Experience Essential
  • Provision of high-quality mental health services, as trainee or Consultant.
  • Previous experience of working in a clinical leadership role with positive relationships with team members.
  • Knowledge Essential
  • Knowledge about the NHS and understanding the evidence base underpinning the delivery of high-quality services.
  • Ability to manage, improve or to support the clinical operations of the service.
  • Understanding of the importance of excellent team working relationships and ability to put this into practice.
  • Knowledge about mental health policy with ability to think strategically and manage change.
  • Knowledge of appropriate medical, pharmacological, and psychological treatments.

  • Able to meet the travel requirements of the post.
