Full Job Description

This post will work alongside the Midwifery, Obstetric and Endocrine teams providing clinical advice, specialist skill, knowledge and expertise in the care and management of women with diabetes in pregnancy. The post holder will initiate, develop, and maintain services in the assessment and management of women with pre-existing and gestational diabetes in pregnancy. The post holder will provide a specialist role within the maternity team as a practitioner developing advanced midwifery practice within the diabetic service, working as part of the MDT to develop and support the ongoing management of diabetes care provision within the maternity service., The post holder will be part of the senior midwifery leadership team within the maternity department. They will work as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team to coordinate care within the outpatients setting and ensure effective day to day management, care planning and treatment for women within the service.
The individual will ensure the highest standards of midwifery care and have an ability to lead and implement practice changes within the department. They will support the continuing professional development of the midwifery team sharing expert knowledge and participating in research opportunities as they arise. They will be an innovator with specialist midwifery skills that will support the growth of care provision for women with diabetes in pregnancy within the maternity unit., An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 7 specialist midwife to provide leadership and clinical expertise within our expanding maternal diabetes service.

This post holder will need to be highly organised with an ability to make complex decisions and manage constantly shifting demands typical of a busy maternity service. You will have responsibility for maintaining the safety of pregnant women with pre-existing diabetes and gestational diabetes, supporting their journey from diagnosis to birth.
