Full Job Description

This is an expert practitioner role. The EMP will practice within the consultant midwife framework to support the pathway for women choosing caesarean section with their first baby. Supervised and supported by the consultant midwives the successful candidate will: 1. Facilitate informed choice, advocacy and ongoing support to women choosing caesarean section. 2. Work in collaboration with multi-agency teams to improve experience and outcomes for families. 3. Continuously develop midwifery care to promote enhanced recovery for long term maternal health and wellbeing. 4. Provide expert clinical advice to all staff to ensure best practice standards are met to facilitate informed choice. 5. Design services and empower staff to meet the health and social needs of the local populations in line with key objectives outlined in local and national policy documents. 6. Share their expertise and act as a resource and role model both internally and externally to the Trust including community midwifery services., The Expert Practice function Supervised and supported by the consultant midwives the Post holder will: Function clinically as an expert in midwifery practice, promoting professional leadership and clinical excellence working in collaboration with the appropriate multi-disciplinary and third sector groups. Exercise judgement in assessing wide-ranging issues always with focus of promoting safety and positive outcomes. Findings solutions, ensure and promote options to enable the delivery of optimum care and choice and access for women. To be an expert in the clinical care of pregnant women and newly delivered women, with a primary focus on enhancing the maternal experience and safer outcomes. Under the support of a consultant midwife, develop strategies to ensure women with complex needs benefit fully from a multidisciplinary approach to their care. Develop and maintain evidence-based guidelines for holistic pregnancy practice.To ensure excellent communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team. To work innovatively within the NMC Code making changes in practice in line with evidence available., Influence the development of maternity priorities and work closely with service users and stakeholders to ensure the provision of equitable, efficient and accessible care for all women. Seek and offer advice on best practice arising from current and relevant research. Provide written reports as per service demands. To inspire and demonstrate leadership qualities through delivery of specialist advice, working with others, demonstration of personal qualities, continuous service improvement, and setting direction. Manage change through strategic thinking, use of negotiating skills, self-awareness and effective communication. Act as a role model, provide professional leadership to the team and promote the Trust CARE values. Demonstrate commitment to the role and to service improvement through developing relationships with Commissioners, innovative thinking and small scale project management., Facilitate a supportive and enabling learning environment for unqualified and qualified staff where open discussion of clinical care and decision making are encouraged. Be an expert role model working alongside qualified midwives, midwifery and medical students Develop education strategies for women and birthing people within the maternal request caesarean section pathway and subsequent pregnancies. Service Development and Evaluation Supervised and supported by the consultant midwives the Post holder will: Contribute to the evaluation of services using local data and Robson Criteria. Be responsible for the promotion of evidence-based practice within the pathway of maternal request caesarean section. With support of the consultant midwifery team lead in the development, implementation, and evaluation of guidelines. Develop effective networks with user groups. To assist the development of the service in line with the Trust Clinical Governance agenda.
