Full Job Description

The roles report to the H&S Manager and provide critical, hands-on support to the local operational teams within the warehouse functions. The key elements of the roles will be to provide a solid framework that allows the team to achieve and maintain a pioneering Health, Safety and Environmental standard across the operation. Primarily the role is Monday to Friday, but on occasion some flexibility may be required to support outside of this window due to operational requirements. How will you contribute?

  • Work as a team to manage site Health and Safety in accordance with Wincanton's Health and Safety Procedures.
  • Ensure the site meets or exceeds the Health and Safety targets expected by Company / Client, eg. LTIFR, TIFR and leading indicators.
  • Co-ordination of all site Health and Safety activities including committees and training and communications to ensure the site remains compliant.
  • Be instrumental in reviewing / creating Risk Assessment and SSoWs - ensuring they are compliant and up to date.
  • Use corporate IT systems eg. EcoOnline, etc. to produce reports and also complete mandatory IT training modules in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance when dealing with accident investigation, Major Incidents and RIDDOR reports.
  • Ensure personal involvement where necessary in the investigation and remedial actions for all major incidents, accidents and lost time incidents.
  • Work in line with Company Process for Audit requirements.
  • Act as necessary without supervision to get things done and organize people and activities effectively, knowing what to measure and how to measure it.
  • Define problems and devise effective solutions using rigorous logical and analytical tools.
  • Be pro-active in decision making based on analysis, experience, judgement and intuition.
  • Carry out site inspections to analyses what exists and what needs to be done and arrange for appropriate actions to be taken.
  • Conduct Minimum Safety Standards to ensure compliance.
  • Help facilitate Health & Safety meetings and oversee First Aiders and Fire Marshals on site, again acting in accordance with site compliance and current legislation.
  • Be instrumental in driving safety improvement plans across site including advocating a H&S comes first culture.
  • Ensure management of contractors on site i.e., permit to work is compliant against Wincanton standards
  • To attended company safety conferences / courses as required throughout the year

    Currently hold or working towards a relevant Health and Safety qualification such as NEBOSH
  • Experience of HSE in an operational area, preferably in a warehousing operation
  • Proactive, effective, and motivated team player who can demonstrate a strong capability of engaging with the workforce and be able to effectively communicate and challenge, both verbally and in writing
  • Remains calm and works well under pressure in tight deadline situations, displaying exceptional organisational skills
  • Must possess strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Must be able to demonstrate a keen interest in continually improving our Health and Safety performance
  • Flexible, adaptable and able to think rationally under pressure
