The resource base provides a nurturing and structured environment for children with Autism and SEMH needs, offering tailored support to help them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The Role We are seeking a caring and resilient SEND Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our resource base team. You will play a key role in supporting children with Autism and SEMH needs, helping them to access the curriculum and develop essential social and emotional skills. The ideal candidate will be patient, adaptable, and skilled in managing challenging behaviour calmly and effectively. Main Responsibilities

  • Support children with autism and SEMH needs in accessing learning activities within the resource base and mainstream classrooms.
  • Implement individual education plans and behaviour support strategies.
  • Assist children in developing social skills, emotional regulation, and independence.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support, adapting activities to meet individual needs.
  • Support children in managing challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENDCo, therapists, and other support staff.
  • Support children's sensory needs and transitions throughout the school day.
  • Build positive relationships with children, parents/carers, and the wider school community.

    Previous experience working with children with Autism and/or SEMH needs.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships and remain calm under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach.
  • Desirable Criteria
  • Relevant qualifications.
  • Experience working in a resource base or specialist setting.
  • Training in Makaton, PECS, or other communication systems.
  • Understanding of sensory processing needs and strategies.
