Full Job Description

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a full-time locum Consultant Ophthalmologist: This post is for an Ophthalmologist with a subspecialist interest in oculoplastic and lacrimal. Applicants will also be expected to have broad general ophthalmology experience. This post is to cover maternity leave and is for a fixed period of 12 months.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact Hampshire Hospitals (see below) to discuss the post., The post holder will:o Deliver specialist oculoplastic services including operatingo General Ophthalmology responsibilities and on callo Work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service with the highest standard of careo Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelineso Develop and maintain good working practices within wards, outpatients and A&Eo Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues in tertiary centres, community services and primary careo Offer support and leadership to junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team

Our service configuration includes a dedicated Eye Day Case Unit (EDCU) at Basingstoke Hospital, a dedicated Ophthalmic Imaging Technician, as well as community eye services that support glaucoma referral refinement and Minor Eye Conditions (MECs) being dealt with closer to home. We also have a specialised theatre at Andover War Memorial Hospital, as well as operating on cases in our day surgery units on both main hospital sites. Just one of our departments saw over 25,000 outpatient attendances in 2018/19 and nearly 5,000 inpatient and day-case operations. Each of our existing consultants has a strong general Ophthalmology background with sub-specialty interests in medical retina, glaucoma, uveitis, anterior segment, oculoplastic, and paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus.
