Full Job Description

§ To provide specialist employment advice and support to Care Group Directors, Managers, Resident Doctors and other stakeholders across the Trust. § To provide leadership and management of the Medical Workforce team for day to day and operational duties including providing specialist, efficient and professional Medical HR advice. To be agreed and overseen by the Head of Medical Workforce. § Ensure robust relationships are developed within the Trust to influence, challenge and support managers and to monitor the success of the key performance indicators relating to Employee Relations for Medical Staff. § To contribute to the development and delivery of a comprehensive Medical Workforce service to the Trust in order to support operational effectiveness and the achievement of the Trust's strategic plan. § Provide professional advice and expertise on a range of workforce issues, identifying interventions and initiatives as appropriate. Supporting services in achieving fair and effective management of their employees, reducing corporate liabilities through effective risk management and workforce activity. § To contribute to the implementation of the Trust's Medical Workforce framework of policies and procedures. To line manage, support and coach the Medical Workforce Advisors as appropriate., To deliver a high quality Medical Workforce service to the Trust to enable the clinical departments to meet their overall objectives. To act as senior point of contact on all medical staffing issues, including employee relation management and other procedural matters, ensuring adherence to trust policies, employment legislation, terms and conditions of service and best practice. To oversee all the medical recruitment and selection processes for consultant appointments and other designated grades of medical staff in accordance with legal requirements, good employment practice and Trust policy. To ensure all pre-employment checks are carried out on all incoming medical staff to the trust either employed or in-directly employed by the Trust. To regularly review recruitment and selection practices and processes to ensure the continuing provision of a quality, cost-effective service which supports the employment and retention of medical staff. To support any specific recruitment campaigns for medical staff. To regularly review all procedures relating to medical staff within the Trust and align them to HR best practice. To deputise for the Head of Medical Workforce when required at the Joint Local Negotiating Committee (JLNC) and support the Head of Medical Workforce with matters arising and as delegated., To undertake the role of support to the case investigator, as appropriate, in relation to the Trust's Maintaining High Professional Standards policy and disciplinary and grievance cases in conjunction with guidance from the Head of Medical Workforce To support the Chief Medical Officer and the Head of Medical Workforce in the annual review of consultant job plans. Ensure that pay changes are signed off as per process. To attend the resident doctor, LED, Consultants and SAS groups providing support and advice. The ability to advise and support with sponsorship requirements of migrant workers, ensuring the Trust maintains its licence for use of the Home Office UKBA's sponsorship management system. To attend regional NHS England and other external meetings as required and advised by the Head of Medical Workforce. To review relevant employment policies in line with service developments and changes in employment law, in conjunction with the Head of Medical Workforce.

  • Educated to postgraduate / CIPD level (or equivalent).
  • Good Knowledge of current Medical Staffing issues.
  • Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with ESR or other HR systems and applications., Substantial experience in a Medical Workforce, of advising managers in complex employee relations cases e.g. sickness absence, disciplinary matters, grievance and performance management.
  • Previous experience of managing a team.
  • Expertise of working within a healthcare environment in terms of application on M&D NHS policy and process.
