Full Job Description

As a Lead Teacher in the Alternative Tuition Service, you will work alongside the lead teachers within the service to deliver a bespoke curriculum to children who for various reasons are the responsibility of the Local Authority., You can view a full list of requirements in the Job and Person Profile (docx). The team

You will be joining a dynamic team of inspirational staff, who are a supportive and collaborative group of experienced teachers, who put pupil needs and voice at the centre of everything they do.

Our service works with vulnerable children who are either medically unfit to attend school, are permanently excluded or are awaiting a specialist placement, and provides a high quality of education for pupils who experience a range of needs, often complex. We aim to provide the best education we can for children while they are out of school and are constantly working to develop this.

The team is a supportive and collaborative group of experienced teachers, who put pupil needs and voice at the centre of everything we do.

Our team works in a hybrid way, spending some time in our office base in Ipswich and some time working from home and out in the community. You would be expected to work in the same way and fit within the overall team timetable.

- have knowledge and significant experience of working with a range of pupils with special educational and emotional needs
- have experience of managing children that can display challenging behaviour
- experience of teaching Numeracy to a range of pupils' abilities
- work with a team of specialist teachers who have knowledge and significant experience of working with a range of pupils with special educational and emotional needs
- lead on the development of the Numeracy curriculum across all key stages, as well as leading the provision and examination of Maths GCSEs. The service is a registered examination centre so you will work alongside the lead for online learning to ensure that pupils are able to access the appropriate Maths examinations. You will also have specific responsibility for all children in the service in Key Stages one and two.
- model positive attitudes and relationships with all stakeholders, including your staff and schools, to establish a caring, safe and stimulating environment for teaching and learning. In doing so, you will establish and maintain good working relationships with other professionals within your work and with parents/carers and LA staff
- also be able to respond to the issues that may be affecting the young people's ability to access the curriculum and support them appropriately.

You will need

- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong commitment to social inclusion
- to inspire pupils to achieve their full potential
- experience of, and a commitment to teaching Numeracy across a range of abilities
- leadership in teaching and learning
- to work as a part of a strong and supportive team
- experience of working in primary schools and knowledge of the Maths curriculum across all stages and all subjects of the primary curriculum would be beneficial
- experience of working with children with SEND and responsibility of working with young people with SEMH is desirable
- willingness to learn and grow is valued, even if applicants don't have all the technical expertise yet. Transferable skills that could apply from other roles., Disability Confident
