Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably skilled and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our C&V UHB mental health rehabilitation and recovery service. The occupational therapy team covers four rehabilitation units across Cardiff and provides holistic assessment and intervention to patients with complex psychosis.
The post involves management of a caseload across the units, which follow through to the community; providing supervision and support to registered and support healthcare staff; opportunities to develop and maintain projects; and effective communication of occupational therapy plans to the multi-disciplinary team and outside agencies, such as the complex care commissioning team.
The postholder will build on their post-graduate knowledge to further expand their specialist skills and practice within the area of mental health.
The post offers full time hours (37.5)., + Works without direct supervision to assess, plan, implement and evaluate Occupational Therapy interventions with autonomy in secondary care and community settings to include lone working e.g. patients own home.
+ To manage a defined caseload, using evidence based/client centred principles within the occupational model.
+ To develop expertise in identified clinical areas.
+ To provide leadership through supervision, induction, training and education of Band 5 Occupational Therapists, support staff and volunteers according to organisational policy and accepted professional standards.
+ To demonstrate a commitment to the education of Occupational Therapy students ensuring the maintenance of clinical standards through regular supervision of students on practice placement
+ To work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and with voluntary organisations, local authority and other appropriate health and social care sectors to negotiate care provision across the primary/secondary care interface
+ To maintain clinical records in accordance with legal requirements and professional standards., The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner and will have relevant post registration experience for the role and will undertake specialist clinical duties as required within a defined specialist clinical area.
To work alongside members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver Occupational Therapy services to citizens within a defined specialist clinical area. This will include citizens with multi-pathology and complex needs, using evidence-based citizen centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions and maintain associated records. They will have responsibility for managing their own specialist clinical caseload. In addition, they will provide clinical supervision and support to Occupational Therapists, student and support staff.
The post will allow the experiened Occupational Therapist, with existing post-graduate knowledge and skills to further develop specialist practice. The postholder will jointly agree a job plan and objectives which will be reviewed yearly as part of the UHB appraisal process.
The post holder will be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified. They may be required to work their normal contracted hours flexibly, in a variety of different working patterns, in response to the needs of the service where they are placed. For example, this could include working their contracted hours as part of a 7-day job plan or working their hours over a pattern that includes extended days and unsocial hours. To participate in the on-call and Bank Holiday service as required for the role.
