Full Job Description

To work as part of the Play specialist team to provide play and recreational needs of individual children of any age in hospital by providing a safe environment and appropriate materials. To maintain and supervise play activities for individual and groups of children and young people in hospital, according to their individual needs and as part of the overall care plan. Using knowledge of child development when selecting play activities. 2. To work as part of the play specialist team, to select and apply therapeutic play programmes to include preparation for invasive and non invasive procedures, distraction therapy, and post procedural play, under the supervision and guidance of a qualified Hospital Play Specialist. 3. To plan a programme of daily play activities for the playroom/ department. 4.Understands the importance of the patient as the centre of the health care system. Demonstrates that he/ she consults and involves patients in decisions about their care and wellbeing. 5.To provide support to families under stress and in crisis Hospital Play Leader- Page 2 of 4 6.To respect the individuality, values, and cultural and religious diversity of patients and their families, and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs. 7.To ensure that up to date written records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards 8. Works as an effective team member. Understands the importance of team working in the delivery of high quality care. Demonstrates good communication with children, carers and ward team. 9. Establish effective communication both verbal and written with children and families and all members of the multidisciplinary team. 10.To ensure that up to date written records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards 11.Supports the Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse to ensuring the clinical area practices within Data Protection/ Confidentiality/ Caldecott principles 12.Be responsible for maintaining play equipment in accordance with Trust health and safety standards 13.Be responsible for maintaining play equipment in accordance with Trust health and safety standards 14.Is able to identify how complaints may arise and how they should be dealt with. 15.Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of the health, safety and security of self and others in work area. The post holder must ensure that he/ she works within risk management/ occupational health legislation and Trust procedures for safe working practices. 16.Demonstrates a commitment to continued personal development and attend booked study days. 17.Be aware of current research within own field.
