Practice Development Midwife

The Practice Development Midwife will provide evidence-based advice, and support to all maternity staff. The focus of this post is to support newly qualified midwives and maternity support workers. The practice development midwife will be responsible for managing the induction, orientation and training of newly qualified midwives and maternity support workers, and facilitating training for all staff within the maternity department., The post holder will lead on the induction of newly qualified midwives and newly appointed maternity support workers as well as their on-going training. The post holder will also work closely with other members of the practice development team to support in the facilitation of in situ skills drills and managing multi-professional training in the department. The post holder will manage the Preceptee Support Midwife and the Lead Midwife Support Worker. The post holder will also work with the practice development team in the development of midwifery practice and enhance the overall quality of patient care. It is expected that the post holder will work clinically, supporting students and staff as a requirement of the role., While working in all areas of maternity practice development, your work will focus on leading the PROMPT faculty and planning and delivering the maternity training programme as well as supporting the induction, orientation and ongoing training of band 6 and above midwives. This is a busy, demanding role - to help you, you will work within a team and be supported by the Preceptee Support Midwife, the Student Support Midwife and the Lead Maternity Support Worker. You will be a highly skilled midwife, competent and confident in teaching perineal suturing, neonatal resuscitation and the first-line management of obstetric emergencies.
