Full Job Description

Join our vibrant multi-disciplinary Public Health team in Birmingham, the largest Local Authority in the country. We're looking for a Public Health Officer to help enhance the health and wellbeing of our community through the Bolder Healthier Programme. This position is the Bolder Healthier Programme Team which is part of the Head of Office team. The team you will be joining are engaged in a dynamic and diverse range of work engaging with the citizens of Birmingham. The Bolder Healthier Programme is building on the success of our Covid Champion work. The aim of the programme is working with our champions helping to cascade public health information amongst our community connectors. Providing public health expertise and working in a matrix way with the wider team and ensuring effective communication with our champions. You will also provide support at public health events, webinars and other public facing events. You will also support to the Communications and Engagement Team to ensure effective communication between the council and citizens within Birmingham The team works with a wide range of stakeholders to improve health and wellbeing, including internal directorates, Integrated Care Systems, NHS trusts and the third sector. The role will provide support to team colleagues in development of evidence-based projects to address health inequalities in the city. You will support and influence work to reduce demand and improve the health and wellbeing of groups. This is an ideal opportunity for somebody who has experience of partnership working with a diversity of stakeholders to support health work outputs and outcomes towards meeting the needs of Birmingham citizens.

  • Do you enjoy working flexibly, proactively, in a matrix way to ensure business objectives are met.
  • Experience or a keen interest in understanding Public Health priorities and the relevant policy environment.
  • Ability to manage projects and knowledge on scoping projects stating aims objectives and milestones, underpinned by effective IT skills
  • Experience of identifying and analysing a wide range of data sets and other intelligence to inform work and communicating information and concepts to a diversity of audiences
  • Preparing reports and presentations through collation and analysis of data to inform decision making
  • Planning and organising events, meetings and workshops from design stage to implementation
  • Sound communication skills including the ability to make use of different types of social media
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing demands.
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a diverse team, providing cover when needed to ensure continuity of service provision
  • A motivated and enthusiastic self -starter that is willing to learn new concepts and take on additional learning and training where required.
