Programme Support Officer

The Public Health Division works across the council plan and is responsible for providing strategic leadership to develop the Council into a local authority that actively promotes population health. This will be achieved by being able to visualise and describe what a healthy Birmingham looks like and then equip others to share our vision and take action. We achieve this by championing the improved health and wellbeing of all citizens, but especially the most vulnerable. Our vision is to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of Birmingham's population by reducing inequalities in health and enabling people to help themselves. About the Children and Young People Team The Children and Young People (CYP) Team play a crucial role in the Public Health Division by leading the implementation of the Healthy Child Programme. This includes overseeing health visiting, school nursing, the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP), and vision screening. Additionally, the team is responsible for leading efforts in child and family weight management, the Healthy Start/Healthy Start Vitamins Scheme, and contributing to initiatives aimed at reducing infant mortality. Our work is vital in delivering public health services during the pre-natal and post-natal stages of healthcare. The team collaborates with a broad range of stakeholders, including internal council directorates, the Integrated Care System, NHS trusts, third sector organizations, and commissioned services, to enhance the health and well-being of children and young people across Birmingham., We are seeking a full-time Programme Support Officer to join the CYP Team within the Public Health Division. In this role, you will work closely with the Programme Officer, Senior Officer, and the broader Public Health team to support the development and delivery of evidence-based public health initiatives aimed at improving the health outcomes of children and young people in Birmingham. This role reports directly to the Programme Officer. This role will provide specific support within Birmingham's Healthy Start , Child Weight Management and Healthy Child programme , to better the health and wellbeing of Children and Young people through established initiatives and projects. This role has been structured to develop your subject matter knowledge and technical expertise within the Public Health model looking to develop many key public health skills and competencies. By supporting team members and the wider team, you will play an active role in developing projects that address health inequalities among children and young people across the city. Additionally, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of performance, cost efficiency, and quality, ensuring that key performance indicators (KPIs), outcomes, and targets are met for the CYP team ., You must upload a Supporting Statement via the attachments part of your application. You must have some working knowledge of the Children and Young Peoples agenda. Strong negotiation, communication and written skills are essential for this role. • Has experience or a keen interest in understanding public health priorities and the relevant policy landscape.
• Possesses strong project management skills, including the ability to scope projects with clear aims, objectives, and milestones, supported by effective IT skills.
• Has Experience in identifying and analysing diverse data sets and other intelligence to inform work is essential. You should be able to communicate information and concepts to a wide range of audiences.
• Can prepare reports and presentations by collating and analysing data to inform decision-making.
• Has experience in planning and organising events, meetings, and workshops from the design stage through to implementation.
• Has strong communication skills including the ability to utilise various social media platforms effectively.
• Is able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing demands.
• Has the ability to work flexibly as part of a diverse team , including providing cover when needed to ensure continuity of service provision.
