Full Job Description

Job Summary: Develop and conduct individual and/or collaborative research projects, acting as a principal investigator where appropriate. Support academic staff for external funding applications, research result publications and dissemination, and/or impact case development. Work closely with different research centres/groups on relevant research topics ranging from Cyber Security to Virtual, Augmented & Mixed Reality., Research

  • Undertake the collection of research data; this may be through a variety of research
  • methods, such as scientific experimentation, literature reviews, and research interviews.
  • Design, implement, test and document appropriate research methods associated with
  • the particular area of research.
  • Develop and maintain skills in relevant research methodologies.
  • Ensure that full and accurate documentation is kept for all work and ensure that all
  • policies and processes, including quality assurance, are maintained and adhered to.
  • Liaise with other researchers, both internal and external, and collaborate to execute
  • project deliverables.
  • Contribute to the analysis of research data as directed, liaise regularly with the principal
  • investigator about study progress, writing progress reports as required.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of papers for presentation at regional, national
  • or international conferences and for publication in peer review journals.
  • Prepare papers for steering groups and other bodies. Present information on research
  • progress and outcomes to bodies supervising research.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals and applications to external bodies for funding and
  • contractual purposes.
  • Provide guidance as required to support staff and any students who may be assisting
  • with research.
  • Carry out administrative tasks related to the delivery of the research, planning work to
  • agreed specifications, time and quality standards.
  • Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and
  • deadlines.
  • Maintain high standards of academic and commercial confidentiality. Comply with
  • relevant protocols regarding data confidentiality and security.
  • Join external networks to share information and identify potential sources of funding.
  • Attend and contribute to research/subject group meetings.
  • Engage with and participate in the University's appraisal process.

  • Work closely with relevant research centres/groups to initiate and/or support the preparation
  • of external research grant applications.
  • Conduct collaborative research to generate internationally excellent or world-leading
  • research results for joint publication in leading peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Contribute to the development of research impact case studies.
