Full Job Description

  • To facilitate learning and progress of students with SEND.
  • To support staff in ensuring high quality teaching and provision of students with SEND.
  • To support subject staff in differentiation and meeting the needs of students with SEND both within and outside of the classroom
  • To deliver programmes of study to small groups or individuals to support learning and SEND needs.
  • You will need to have a flexible approach to supporting students.
  • Main Responsibilities and Duties:
  • To undertake as directed individual and small group work.
  • To support leaders and subject staff in ensuring students with SEND consistently make at least good progress across the curriculum.
  • To ensure all appropriate pupil records are maintained to a high standard under the guidance of leaders.
  • Be familiar with and incorporate Team Development and Action Plans into work practices.
  • To liaise with the subject staff, Subject Leaders, Learning Managers, parents, SEND leaders as appropriate to ensure students make good progress.
  • To provide support to classroom teachers in ensuring their high-quality teaching meets the needs of SEND students.
  • To ensure the relevant health and safety regulations are observed at all times.
  • Specific Tasks
  • To work with students with SEND providing in-class support through resources, scribing, aiding completion of tasks, enabling use of IT or other specific duties as directed.
  • To plan and deliver interventions in 1:1 or small group settings.
  • To provide reports to inform Annual SEND Audit Annual reviews, Annual Reviews and parents evening as directed.
  • To write, monitor and review IEP's (Individual Education Plans) and WHMAAL (What Helps Me As A Learner) documents and their implementation, ensuring staff awareness and appropriateness of targets.
  • To be a key point of contact for named students and liaise with class teachers, academic mentors and leaders as appropriate to facilitate student progress in all aspects of education, social and emotional development.
  • To attend training courses as needed to help with your own personal continuing professional development.
  • To act as a reader and/or scribe as required in both internal and external examinations.
  • To be a champion for SEND students.
  • To support students with SEND on educational visits to facilitate their inclusion.
  • To support students with SEND at Parents Evening and other meetings, to facilitate their inclusion.
  • To participate in and attend meetings as directed.
  • To listen to students read and develop their reading skills and interest in and love of reading.
  • Seek to ensure the promotion and facilitation of student's self-esteem, effort, and behaviour.
  • To support and promote the development of all students in becoming independent learners.
  • Contribute to the assessment of pupils learning by providing feedback on learning outcomes and progress of learning within a lesson to class teachers.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the curriculum and monitoring specific individual targets for students.
